Outdoor grown natalensis. Veil left on cap margin is consistent morphology with what Ive grown so far. Cool little feature of these i love.

averaging out in the 70s right now. I had them out when it got cold at first a few weeks back. Only fruit when it gets warm, seemingly above the 60sF.

Harvested these, they were pretty. Idk if i posted the first pics here or not from weeks back but I had a thicc canopy of natalensis out here in this tub. Once spring rolls around again I might start over another outdoor tub.

They really need stabilizing though badly. MS was kinda shit results as expected and a lot of the isolates were whack as fuck.

It seems like the mycelium of this species is quite aggressive and prolific.

First Natalensis shoeboxes to test out different cultures. I have 24 different cultures from MS inoculations and transfers that I'm trying to grow out:

Damn man that’s some serious plate work to make 24 cultures. Did you just transfer from every sector from a plate or did you use spores multiple times?
Natal is a great one to jump all in with too. You should see a ton of phenos and degrees of overlay.

A combination of both - I streaked like six plates from prints, then took a T1 of every distinct growth I saw. Generally, if the T1 looks clean, I’ll send it to grain because I often see several cultures on that T1 and I want to give them all a chance to fruit - if I segmented them out further my plate count would go up exponentially. I’m doing this lately with all my grows, but took it further with Nats for the exact reason you mentioned: tons of phenos with this species (from what I have seen in this thread). I also have two different spore prints I am working with - one from a vendor and one from a forum member, so that’s also part of why I have so many.

That's exciting Hindsight thanks for being down to share all the results with us Keeping good track of 24 cultures through fruiting is harder than it sounds
How many different types of agar growth do you have b/w the 24 cultures? Some of my Nat cultures have been the most tomentose and the most rhizopmorphic myc I've seen

The four shoeboxes I made using awfully bacterial spawn are all coming along nicely. The bacterial smell has disappeared as well. I don't know if this also what happens if you try to grow from sweet-smelling cubensis spawn, but natalensis seems to fight contamination like a champ

I have experienced the same. Much of the MS plates just looked like someone dropped cotton balls in there - they hit the plate lid. I think I posted a pic of it a few pages back. But when I took transfers, I’d get more normal looking growth that wasn’t as tall, but many have very obvious sectors in them, yet I e also noticed the sectoring is unusually patterned…. I haven’t seen that in cubes personally. An example is, if one plate has both tomentose and rhizo growth, it won’t be random or lopsided, it will be evenly distributed like one slice of pizza that’s tomentose followed by one slise of pizza that’s ropey, then back to tomentose then ropey, and all the ropey sectors look exactly the same and grow exactly the same speed, as do the tomentose sectors. Then I have some plates that have a base of tomentose mycelium with random ropes laying on top at all different angles. I posted a pic of that a page or two ago. It is the weirdest plate I’ve seen and nothing like any other species.

Looks good.
Even with cubes bacterial spawn will fruit more often than not. Usually just one flush, but bacteria isn’t a death sentence like people think.
