Need help from someone with tool experience
    #2760162 - 06/03/04 09:28 AM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I've cut out two sheets of wood to work as a top and bottom base for holding together a glass frame. I want to cut grooves into the wood to slide the glass in, but I'm not totally sure about how I should do this. Would I be able to use a circular saw if I adjuscted the cut depth to where it wouldn't go all the way through the wood? I only need maybe a 1/4 of an inch deep groove.

You can use a circular but a radial arm or a table saw is better

I have a table saw laying around. How would I be able to make the cut with the table saw though if the blade is underneath.

I'll have to go out and re-measure in a bit. I believe it's about 1/2 inch thick.

well if you have a table saw just set the depth to 1/2(if thats what you want) and then set your fence to the appropriate depth so you will center your blade in the wood. I assume you dont want the groove to go all the lenght of the wood so be careful when you plunge cut.

The groove will be fine going the whole length of the wood. I'm basically making a glass box. Plywood on the bottom and top, and culk, lots of culk.

I'm using OSB so the chisel thing probably wouldn't work too well.

It's a type of plywood. It's kind of pressed in layers. Not like that shitty sawdust pressed wood (don't recall the name for this).

ripping a groove along a peace of ply wood might make the joint rather week. You might consider taking a 1 by 1 and tacking it onto the ply wood.

I use it in speakerbox building.

Well it doesn't need to be too sturdy, just enough to keep the glass in place. It's just going to be a makeshift glovebox.

I see it would be the easiest and cleanest
to tack on the 1x1 that I mentioned above
no power tools needed, even though they sure are fun.

I'll have to see if I've got any laying around, I pretty much have to make due with what I have. I'm broke, just got layed off.
