CIA Director Tenet Resigns

CIA Director George Tenet has resigned, citing personal reasons, President Bush said today. Tenet's resignation takes effect in mid-July, after which Deputy Director John McLaughlin will become the agency's acting chief, Bush told reporters at the White House. Bush said Tenet had done "a superb job for the American people."

I don't know much of anything about Tenet, but he's CIA so he's automatically evil.

I forgot giant building blowing up was a personal problem.

yeah that was the biggest crock of shit, why did they even pretend that it was for 'personal reasons'?

The head of the intelligence agency who oversaw the two greatest intelligence failures (would other people agree?) in the history of the United States.

edit: I knew there was another one: Pearl Harbor was an intelligence failure, no?  So I guess he oversaw 2 of the 3 greates intelligence failures of all time.  still good reason for resigning.

The economy isnt crashing, if I remember correctly it started to plummit mear months after Bush took office, but I guess thats his fault because its on his watch.

The economy is incredibly strong for all the crap that is going on, that takes a leader who knows how to hold things together no matter how bleek the situation.

lol ya, personal reasons, family issues. Another cheif director stepped down too, thats 2 in a day.

So when the economy is bad, they say "Well, the Bush Administration is not directly responsible for the condition of the economy."

Then when you perceive it is going well, you say "that takes a leader who knows how to hold things together no matter how bleek(sic) the situation."

I'd like to see some proof of this strong economy. Its been 6 months and I still don't have a full time job...

Oil costs are at an all time high.. as are the oil outputs from OPEC. Sounds like a fucking healthy economy to me! Oh wait no it doesn't. It sounds like more corruption and political bullshit and more of the rich getting richer and the poor getting raped by a flaming spurt of $2.50/gallon gas.

drilling in alaska...lol..as if that would help anything.

you do realize how little oil is actually up there & how many years it would take to actually set up the drills and processing plants and get the manpower into action? From there, you do realize how long it would take the extracted oil to actually affect the market, right?

Alaskan oil is neither a short-term nor a long-term solution to our energy situation.

he's dismantling sound environmental protections, tearning
apart years of protection.

he's pushing christian morality onto the FCC, women's bodies
and, if he has his way, onto the constitution, tearing apart
the notion of seperation between the church and the state
in subtle and not so subtle ways.

he's polarized the entire globe when we had nearly everyone
on the planet behind our cause in the immediate wake of 9/11,
tearing apart the international relations we've spent years
building.

his administration has torn apart, or, at the very least, mortally
wounded the system of checks and balances via rubber stamp
judicial review c/o The PATRIOT Act.

he's created a great rift in the government's scientific community
by suppressing information for the sake of political advantage,
seperating fact from political policy.

he's caused a great exodus of civil servants from the government
as a result of his divisive policies, cronyism and crooked leadership,
robbing the country of principled individuals who have served this
nation well for years.

and the very least....he's dividing the nation among those blind
and/or greedy enough to support him and the rest of us who care
about the sanctity of the american system of government and our
continued involvement in the world community sans unending war.

(edit: enhanced for clarity)

Well, maybe marriages should not be legal at all. Who needs marriage licenses from the goverment at all anyway?

International relationships with who? Iraq, Afganistan? France, Russia, Germanyy? Bribery problems may be found with them, and we had great support, but the UN wouldnt budge at all on anything, except sending more inspectors in.

Patriot act is necessary, better then the huge wall between the CIA and FBI. I dont know about the scientific community, havent heard much about that.

All politicians have scandals, all of them.

And the other side is dividing the country just as much, they are going the all out route of hating the current administration, rather then constructivly trying to criticize and mend the country back together. The division is on both sides, but I see more Bush-bashing and hating then anybody out there, but somehow he is still getting good poll numbers...

Most of the laws that are in the news recently aren't new laws, they are actions that are enforcing laws that have been on the books for years. Ever since the Internet Decency Act (that might not be the name, communications decency act?) of Slick Willie.

Yet another member of the "I haven't read much literature about the 'seperation of church and state'" crowd. I think Alex is having a luncheon for your group soon.

Sure, because the USA appeared weak. People love a weak USA. When we stand back up and fix some shit, then they hate us. Oh well, I don't see France mattering anytime too soon here. Any proof that the "entire globe" hates us, or just some vocal european nations that were getting great deals on oil from Saddam?

Stories abound about improving franco-american relations.

PATRIOT act expires, and the only other candidate for president voted for it too

a "great rift"? I agree that his religious views come into play on the stem cell issue, but a "great rift"? Can you document this?

If they stayed under Clinton, and left under Bush, it's not divisie policies, cronyism or crooked leadership that they detest.

We didn't start the war.

Sure, because the USA appeared weak. People love a weak USA.

If that's what you think...well you don't understand the rest of the world or how we think. Everyone I know and talked to after 9/11 felt a great deal of pain for the USA and what it was going through. We saw innocent lives being thrown away. We saw your pain...and we shared it for a time. It had nothing whatsoever to do with the US being "weak"...because we all still knew that the US is the strongest nation on the planet. No contest.
