cutting....grass?

Well i have about 7 acres of feild to mow each spring and this year my work schedule let it get pretty tall before I was able to mow. My mower is a john deere lawn tractor which has seen 3 years of hard use so this year I took it in to a well known repair shop to rebuild the mower deck and safety check it,I want to teach my son to drive it and want it safe.So my wife picks up the machine and takes it home and begins mowing, well it was really lagging inthe tall grass but she managed to do about 1/4th of the yard. When I got home i looked it over and noticed first off they did not replace the big chute guard, but the work was growing abot and inch a day so I just jumped on for a few turns before dark.MY BAD! I began mowing along the bank to our bridge and the front wheel found a mole hill and sunk downhill on the bank and then highcentered.Well that happens a lot so I threw it out of gear and jumped off the machine, but I had to get of the discharge side as the other side was at an angle down the bank to the creek. When I landed i was a good six inches or so from the discharge but I stepped onto loose gravel and my heel slid right into the mouth of the mower discharge. Now if this company would have done it's job there would have been brake compound to stop the blades as I shut them down but they left bare metal so the blades were free spinning at nearly full speed. The first whack took the whole side of my boot off and gouged me deeply. I remember feeeling four more hits which chunked my ankle while filling the gouge with my shoe, gravel, grass, and dirt.It cut my Achilles tendon(I know why it brought him down now!)and pulped all the vessels in my heel.I began bleeding out and had this odd voice say "if you want to live put pressure on the wound"Which I did and then walked the 150' back to the house to get help. By now I have lost at least three pints and my head was swimming like I was gonna pass out but soon as I got sat down My head cleared and we pressure bandaged it with dishtowels and headed to the E-room.My lil honey took the hour and 20 it usually takes to get out to our country home and turned it into a 45 mintute race at well over 135mph(in an f150 crew cab...not stock ).Once at the hospital they immediatly prepped me for surgery and after three hrs of reoming bits of shoe and other stuff from the hole and a couple grafted arteries later I am pecking it all out to you now with a cast for the next ten weeks and several very uncomfortable months restretching the repaired tendon.Say good bye to summer ,eh? ouch!@!!!!!
I chopped thru a couple of tendons in my wrist and destroyed my right radial nerve about a year or so ago.
I just now have full movement of my thumb and I can open jars again!
I hope you heal fast and make a full recovery.

All they do is make piles of shit everywhere....hey wait a minute = Might be able to sell that idea to the ole lady but it'll be tough as we've been through sheep, goats and Emus and have lost many animals to the growing cougar population. She's a country lass but finding her favorite goat with it's throat torn out was the end of farm stock at the Camp.
