If you were going to use brf or brown rice as grain then the brf would be the way to go since it’s already got a head start on digesting brown rice, but since I’m assuming you’re gonna be using rye, wheat or whatever else then it doesn’t matter. Whichever growth is healthiest and fastest, agar or brf pucks
Yes, I'll use Rye. Thanks Wall.E!

I'd soak that sucker overnight.

Thanks small, Nich and nos. I did a soak and added a freshly pasteurized Jiffy sand casing. I will wait and see. I don't have anything else ready for that tub right now, so I'll keep fingers crossed and update whatever the result turns out to be.

Mines pretty slow but almost colonized, should’ve grabbed a picture.
The myc from this stuff is pretty different looking.

It's greyer, where cubes are whiter. Both myc and fruits have a different smell too, strong but not pungent or rot like

Are those bags super deep or is it just the angle?? Looks like some nice clusters on there, people are getting better at these I’ve seen a lot of great pics lately.
Here’s my second ever attempt so far.

They are deep. Should of made 4 bags with that amount of spawn but I want to keep them fruiting for as much as possible. If I deed that ^ I could of fruited them in the bags.

These are moving quick.
Found some knots already so it looks like I gotta get the ol’ casing mix out.

I use Asura's casing recipe for pans but I had good results with plain verm.

Hi everyone,
I recently got some Subtropicalis spores to germinate on agar... I think. The mycellium looks really weak and disorganized, and it grows very slowly. I thought it was some kind of mold at first but it grew exactly at the spots where I smeared the spores on the plate (after about 10 days).
Does anyone have a pic of a germination plate for this species so that I can compare? I skimmed the thread but did not find any. Also does this species tend to be slow on agar as well? Should I try a high-nute or low-nute agar recipe?
Thanks

No pics. But the myc is thin and wispy. Something like pans or stone producers but thicker and whiter.

I was about to inject some bags of composted straw and manure (fortified with oats) with a bunch of very lively looking semp LC. Anyone gone this route with success or should make a bunch of grain jars instead?

Well my jiffy mix seems to have disappeared so I cased with a little bit of potting soil mixed with a bunch of verm. Seems to be doing ok.

I wasn’t sure how it would go since there was already significant knotting but it seems to like it. I can see some primordia underneath the myc/casing too.
