limited growth

i have a bunch of PF cakes in a rubbermaid with perlite for humidity; i'm using a 7.5w bulb for light/heat, and it keeps the temperature stable at 70 to 71 degrees F.

Some of the cakes have produced fruit; after a week, i have maybe six mushrooms, none of which were longer than 5.5cm wet. mostly, though, there are lots (10-15) of little aborts that look like tiny babushka dolls, maybe a couple of millimeters in size. my last growing experience led to much larger mushies, and not nearly as many aborts. i have a couple of pins in there now, but most of them i think dried out too badly. also, i've noticed in the past day or so that mycelium has started to grow over some of the aborts.

what's wrong?

Two of the main factors that could be involved are humidity and air exchange.

i don't have a hygrometer, but the humidity in the box fogs up my glasses whenever i open it.

i was misting the cakes, but then i stopped, and now i'm starting again 'cause they look dry. i don't spray them directly, but i put a good 10 or 15 squirts of mist into the tub.

how many times a day should i fan out the box? i've been doing it once when i wake up and once when i get home from work (about 12 hours apart)... is that not enough?

Well the air is suppose to fully exchange 1-3 times per hour so the more the better. 6+ a day is primo :thumbup:
