you don't need to fan cakes more than once per day, that's casings that need frequent fanning.
fan less, get pins sooner because some co2 build-up is needed to trigger pins.

Plain caked develop MUCH slower than cakes given the "double ended" casing tek. I expeirmented with this "back when" and saw dramatic results: Two cakes of Hawaiian set onto their lids per original PF tek, two set in a shallow bread pan with a half inch of 50/50 casing mix in the bottom and a good bit piled on top of each cake. 5 days later the "plain" cakes did nothing while the cased cakes showed considerable new growth. Another 4-5 days and the cased cakes were growing up and down into the casing and starting to pin, while the plain cakes were just showing some new growth.

I would definitely agree, the extra water speeds it up considerably

See attachment for a pic, taken about 5 days after birth. Look closely and you can see the mycelia actively "advancing" into the casing.
