My firend havest his and then puts them in front of a small space heater that only puts out about 100 degree tep.(this was tested) They dry pretty crisp like this in a day. I was wondering do yall think this will decrease the potency and what suggestions do you have for keeping them from loosing potency? he usually just throws them in a jar and puts a lid on them and puts them away until he wants them.. Suggestions would be appreciated Thanks yall peace

Tom,FOAF experienced the same thing.First time with pf, dryed with dessicant.3 days, potent as hell!2ND flush Foaf fan dried them for 12 hours and the seemed to have lost all potency!3rd flush went back to dessicant and they were every bit as potent as the first flush.

Well I used this clear bucket w/ a top from home depot. I think it was for mixing paint. I then put about 2-3 inches of dessicant in the bottom. Then cut out a square of screen and pushed it in there. There were corners that elongated and I then folded these down into the bucket. So the fresh shrooms go on the corners of the screen and the dry go in the middle. The screen was secured w/ duct tape. Ralph in your post above you said: dessicant can only hold a set ammount of moisture. Well I say air can only hold a set ammount of moisture too. I also say that volume wise dessicnt can hold alot more moisture. OOOOOO and another theory. He, Helium, is an inert gas, woln't react with anything (under normal conditions) that is lighter than air and "floats." So if one were to invert a jar of dried mushrooms and keep them from falling somehow and then slowly let out a baloon this would greatly expand the shelf life.

Certain anaerobic bacterias will still be able grow. The best way to expand shelf life is to vacuum pack the mushrooms and then run the bag under a germicidal UV lamp. And Voila!, you have a sterile bag of mushrooms. When using dessicant, you should have the smallest container possible. With less air space, the dessicant doesn't need to absorb as much water from the air. The dessicant doesn't take the water out of the mushrooms, it takes the water out of the air WHICH IN TURN takes the water out of the mushrooms. Thus, smaller headspace means less drying time and longer dessicant life-span.
