I feel like I'm in the original Ghost Busters movie and was thinking about the stay-puft marshmallow man while I was streaking these plates, and as a result.....

I've never seen this kind of growth pattern on a plate before but not surprising given the overlay I see in the tub pics in this thread.
I have two different Nat prints from two different sources. One is producing typical looking mycelium and the other is producing what is pictured above. It will be interesting to see how they compare when they fruit.

I decided to test to what extent Nats can out perform mold.
Let's just say I gave the nat a very small chance to survive..... it didn't

Lovely transfer plate

Clones are all done
16qt, 1:6 with a 1" compressed top layer
.5/2, exposed grain/no top layer. 14g dry, which was unsurprising.
The second half of that spawn went into this shoebox, with a 1" compressed top layer. 25g dry.
These shoeboxes are all 1:4 with a .5" compressed top layer. #1 is the one I'll be using to start the next generation.

Couple Nat x Playa steer manure/compost shoeboxes @ 99% starting to exude their metabolites. Last couple of projects with these genetics yielded some ugly nuclear power. 2nd pic is my 2.5gal novelty jar coming along (same substrate, both without casing or top layer due to sheer laziness). Love decorating my SAB stand with novelty grows.

I have to ask how are you sure that the Nat and playa crossed given that they are different species though genetically very similar.

I wouldn't officially make that claim. I just got tired of annotating each pertinent post with "proposed/suspected" I got these genetics from Adrenognome after seeing a project of his that intrigued me and having worked a bit with different phenos of both. Others have produced compelling crosses ostensibly, but no one is sending these for sequencing yet. I will be sending playa in at my earliest convenience for sequencing, however, as I suspect (and I'm not alone) that it will follow a path of discovery similar to natalensis.

I think nichrome is already working on getting playa sequenced, but I’m not 100% positive. I’d check with him

My first germination looked like this and after a few selections has turned out to be a great culture!
Good luck!

Please do not give "Playa Uvita" to anyone for sequencing. It's in the works.

MojaveMyc Wow those are beautiful, some of your fruits in the last few pics look quite PEnvious...
Finally got some caps that opened fully on flush (4 or 5?). Took a couple tissue samples from one that was very similar to some of yours with the wrinkled stipes/phallic caps. I'm hoping to get like a pure-bred Natalenvy (claiming it, unless someone said it first) pheno, as I've seen many people on here speak of simply crossing them with PE. But we all know these can look very dickish on their own!
More clever-clature, for interested people with a dry sense of humor... sorry to everybody else:

It looks as though there will be a very spiritual reflection on this new year! Well done! I am amazed at how quickly and how darkly these Natalensis can stain. Alto the variety of stain color.. some traditional blue, some greenish, and I have had some indigo... almost black!
