I know it isn't preferable, but I got them half-closed in a cardboard box with a heating pad beneath. Temps are fluctuating between 79F at the bottom of the jars and 74F at the top. I used to have it around 68-70F throughout. It's colonizing a lot faster, now.

I bet it's faster! Cubes could be sped up similarly. I keep everything cool and comfortable for me moreso than the mushrooms. That said it's getting colder outside. Might crank the heat.

Any tips on how you did the outdoor grow? I assume you are in someplace FAR warmer than I am, but did you essentially follow Moe's outdoor grow tek, or did you do something different?

I probably left half the overlay on the sub, so close to 30% of the growth was myc mass.

I have seen speculation on this thread that the overlay is active, and I have seen people saying they will try it and see if it is active... but so far I haven't seen anyone report back... Should I assume that they died from the attempt? Or that they are still off on a level 5 trip?
Any first hand confirmation on if the overlay is active? If so what sort of potency?

You'll definitely see my detailed trip report on the overlay in about a month. I'm just as curious and disappointed as you are that there's 95% speculation and hearsay and almost no personal experiences reported on this topic.

OKay first I think a clone is important for this species in tubs, need good fruiting genetics. I'm pretty sure the overlay people are having is from uneven and overly wet top layers.
I copied parts of P9's pseodocasing tek except just the compression and adding vermiculite part, The verm helps alot.
Don't mist the top layer until it's fully done colonizing or the weird fuzzy mycelium will absord it like a sponge and go all whack on you.
Seems like the weird fuzzy mycelium creates a good pinning environment on its own without misting.
Don't prepare your top layer overly wet. Thats all I got ahah

Do you have a link to the pseudocasing tek? My first attempt at search turned up things that seem not to be what you are talking about...

Flush #3 or #4 (cant remember at this point). These ones have nicer cap color and thicker bodies, I wanted to get darker prints or I'd have let them go a bit longer. It's so fun watching them snake across the surface:

It's a miracle if the veils on mine ever actually drop. And by the time they do (if they will), there's no more spores left. I've got a print on the way of what looks to be a better strain (less fluff/more fruiting), hopefully that will give me better results!
Big thanks to (you know who you are) for that!
Loomy, I just think you happened to get some better genetics. There is no way this floof is environmental...

This summer, the temperature reached up to 45 degrees Celsius during the day and dropped to 25 at night. This did not interfere with the growth of mushrooms.
