I'm thinking commercially for gourmets and medicinals in a bubba. Combo bags of grain and masters mix. I know it would take a while in the barrel. Seems like a no brainer. I've seen Mossy Creek mention it but I don't know if it went anywhere.

What's the verdict and if you kNow of anyone doing grain bags in steamers are you able to link me to it or at least let me know what grain / time they're using please?
I was doing 24 when I did, and it worked most of the time. Reason I quit tho is because it was just most of the time. If your like me even those 1/10 bags or 2/10 bacterial bags will really set you off, I probably could have spaced them better too tho. Idk there's nothing certain about it and it's more of a gamble that way. I never had any molds grow. Just bacteria. So I'm almost certain bacterial endospores we're the only things surving, and sometimes it seemed more than others, this might have even depended on their initial bioburden. Like if your doing oysters tho, or some single flush tubs or something it might work.

Malabar coast and aa+ are pretty common.
The other two sound like random Reddit types.

Do any of you use dedicated pots for water only?
Reason I ask is because I came across some threads about keeping buckets strictly for CVG and never prepping grain, sawdust, etc. in them.
I’ve been prepping millet recently using FooMan’s tek, and although I always wash the pot with soap and water after, I am still using this pot to boil water for my subs.
Is there any contamination risk here?

I've had luck with just straw and millet. I use straw, because it holds together and in a Martha, the mushrooms will pop out of all six sides. The upside down shrooms must give an upsidedown trip.

Has anyone ever bought a used presto 23? I was just wondering if there are things to check before purchasing.
I think nicks on the edge around the rim is fixable. Anything else?
Thanks in advance!

Main things to check is that the bottom is flat and there is no pitting.

If your washing away the residues you should be good. You'd probably get away with it if your actually boiling the water in that container anyway, the heat transfer as all there to kill bacteria and maybe or maybe not the endospores. Day if you just poured boiling water into a bucket caked with residue, it's not killing anything trapped in the residue probably.

No I don't see the point. Ill check the top and bottom temps of my steamer. And actually I was running mine for 36 at one point too. But to tell you the truth there were potentially other variables that played into the bags that went bacterial, being bacterial. Ide say try it out, but don't count on it. Especially if your already running your steaming and prepping grain, just try it. The more you could compare it to actually pressure cooked grain would be worth it. I would never use steamed spawn for g2g tho as an example. People steam their blocks no problem, but there is suppose to be a higher endospore rate in grain, but idk how true that is, cause my soy pellets are pretty hot I know that. My boiler steamer set up is kinda unique, but it's insulated hardcore so as long as the boilers at 212 and the last vessel on the line is 212 I know the bags will be for sure after 12 hours ha, so ide do it for another 24 after that. I have a couple temp probes I could use but I never found the point.
If you really want to know just steam one and leave it to proof like your verifying a petri.

I fucking hate those fuckers. Once one finds a way in, he tells all his buddies and they start living around your place. I use poison traps but I wanted to switch to snappers. Idk. They're gone here for now. They love my compost pile tho, and once got into my grow room / colonizing room and we're chewing into my colonizing sawdust bags for grains.

All of my prestos are used. I've tapped uneven bottoms back into flat with no problems (didn't hear that from me tho) and I've replaced all of my pitted wobble bobbles with 25psi pressure release valves. I've never had a gauge go bad, though I'm ready for it. I have a thermometer stuck on the external wall of my Prestos. (see signature)
But!! a new one comes with a new gaskets, so there is that. And even pandemic prices they aren't bad. Used Prestos are going for 2/3rd new where I am.

I've gotta nocc the couple dozen bags on the floor and get some more sticky traps. It may have snuck in while I was loading water jugs today. Haven't seen anything eaten yet. It was a modest size and el gato was inside for a few days while I was at Thanksgiving.
