I posted over on cult pic of the day too, lol, I'm all stoked over a tiny pin. Ah I can't wait to see beautiful fruits! Lipa Yai MS on BRF/Verm. There's more pins in both these jars but the jeweled glass makes them hard to photograph:

Oh and the bottom of that half pint jar today:

Love the way that looks. ^^^
Here's a shot of my ovoid mini rounds from yesterday on my shitty phone, lol:

Tomorrow I'll get another pic. All 8 are ripping through the BRF/Verm so far. Hope they continue to do well.
ETA: Yeah I keep pretty detailed records of everything. It really helps to have that info for troubleshooting down the road.

Last spring I've noticed the mycelium feeding on dead plant material over a foot deep. I'm thinking the trigger could possibly be the decaying plant material left over from the fall die off along with other suitable conditions. This could also be true during a warm period following a cold spell in the fall (Indian summer).
The basic theory is simple, the mycelium senses the suitable conditions along with the trigger which is dead decaying plant material and goes to fruit. The spores spread and germinate when they come into contact with decaying plant material, then the mycelium travels underground feeding on the root system etc..
It could be a chemical signature given off by other microbes feeding on the same source material. So sterile plant material may not be adequate during indoor testing.
It's just a guess

heres some ovoid myc tearing through some random woodchips i soaked for 24 hours then drained. inoculated directly with an agar wedge completely skipping the grain

https:// Proud that this jars in vitro pin clusters EXPLODED on new pre rotten chips.
Finally Iβm playing with strong fast eating + heavy fruiting genetics <3

This sounds crazy but Iβm wondering if some species need higher co2 levels to pin? Idk maybe itβs the microclimate in the jar, but my thought process is this:
Hard to fruit forest species like beefsteak, cotw, morels, ovoids etc might need a microclimate that has more co2 and humidity that could resemble the microclimate found under thick leaf litter or under tree bark, this could stimulate pinning, after hyphae knots are formed in the higher co2/humidity microclimate, they push upwards through the leaf litter or tree bark
Just food for thought but who knows, I might try to test the idea

Do you guys reckon ovoids can resemble cubes when grown in certain conditions? I got some ββovoidsββ & everyone I showed them to said they were cubes except the caps were much browner instead of gold & the stipes had more distinctly visible vertical stripes, as well as that shiny stipe look when dried that Iβve seen on azures. Also the potency was identical to azures Iβve hadβsome visuals from merely 0.3g. They were way larger than azures but seemed to be the same potency by weight. One dose with these is usually one mushroom, or less.
My cubelike ovoids had brownish pinkish reddish spore prints! & they love woodchips. Not just sawdust, the myc will readily grow on blocks of wood that are several inches thick.
SWIM isolated the strain using their microscope & agar to get the most agressive hyphæ. Maybe we just stumbled upon a really special strain of ovoid? Regardless they are killer mushrooms, very contam resistent & it seems to like every substrate we throw at it. Currently a mix of wood, straw, a bit of dung. Basically emulating what you would find on a forest floor. When grown only on wood & without dung, they appear more orange in color!

So I took that first jar and I pulled out the in vitro pin clusters and washed them under sink water and made one more jar and a Tupperware container full of good spawn and rotten chips. Iβm stoked because these genetics are very rhizomorphic and super fast and aggressive. Finally. The next good jar was eaten fast and is now expanding into x4 jars and Tupperware had huge load of rotten new chips itβs exploding onto.
Iβm very excited but making sure I donβt mess up these strong ovoids. I try to keep backup spawn in case it stalls. But I think I finally have aggressive mycelium Iβve hoped for. It pins and forms knots as soon as jars are consumed
Wish me luck folks

After scanning through most of this thread, I get the impression that most people are trying to drop temp to induce fruiting. I thought this species needed to colonize cold, then a soak, and finally slightly warmer temps to induce fruiting.

I'm finding with my culture they fruit once colonized regardless of Temps but fruiting mature nice fruits can seem to take a little pampering like raise Temps I'd imagine to help speed fruiting set by cool Temps like 60
I've got half a chunk pinning staying in 60F Temps and one pinning chunk in 70F temp and we will see what they do

Iβm willing to bet itβs also because of the micro climate between the tub walls, let us know if they mature or stall, do you have the same pinning on top? Or just the side walls?

I agree wall climate must be most ideal Mostly side wall pins in baggies like I did try for
The small tray pinning has one nice one on top out the soil and I saw new wall pins forming today near it

These were 1st fruits off original block in tub. Now it's x2 big bags broke in half. Hope to get nice fruits regardless of where they pop off the chunk
Most WL grows have the side pins action I see
I'm not the cube indoor expert in canopies
I've tried adding the cactus soil casing to mimic River soil and help retain moisture

On your next tray, add a plastic liner this will stop side pinning, and add a sheet of wax paper on top, this will create the microclimate and CO2 build up they need, once you see a bunch of pins underneath the wax paper, remove it and increase fresh air exchange and humidity
This should yield better results
Good job just getting fruits though

You're welcome, I'm excited to see how it goes for you, I live vicariously through you and others work here since I only focus my efforts or gourmet species these days, but I see a lot of similarities with these because they also consume wood and forest litter like most gourmet species and follow similar temperature and gas exchange requirements

I've really liked the wax paper as fake leaf layer idea π‘ I put wax paper over 3 of 5 pinning trays to hope to coax more healthy topside pins

This bag is in warm Temps now and 4 pins are super fat and healthy
I added wax paper to top and been misting twice a day with top bag open for FAE
Hope these fat ones mature fast so I can show progress shots
