Linux Question
    #2744723 - 05/29/04 03:40 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

Hey,

im working with a shell on a website project, and i want to set an alias for ls to be 'ls --all --color'

The problem is, im not sure where to put that for it to auto-execute

the shell is sh, and i dont know the name of the file (ie .bashrc for bash)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks
--Krem

I'm not a bash person, but in one of the dot files you would add something like:

alias ls='/bin/ls --all --color'

add a .bashrc in your home directory and add

alias ls="ls color=auto"
then do:

source ~/.bashrc

or logout and back in and you should be good. I don't like to inclue the --all switch sometimes I don't want all the file to show up.

You should be able to do it directly from the terminal emulator if you're running X.
