moore's movie not being released is sickening. Disney has said it is afraid of being strong-armed with no tax breaks by jeb bush in florida. bush is striking fear into media companies (disney, viacom, clear-channel), resulting in censorship. we really need to get this guy out of office.

Shame you can't read. Or is it you just are unable to comprehend? Disney said no such thing.

Disney officials appeared to be caught off guard by this onslaught and denied that the company?s decision was motivated by political interests in Florida. They also pointed out they had made it clear a year ago that they wanted no involvement with Fahrenheit 911, which was picked up by Miramax against the wishes of its corporate parent.

Is Moore not a liberal?

Is Disney not using their influence in the media to quash Moore's movie?

No. They are using their ownership of Mirimax to prevent Mirimax from releasing a movie Disney told them a year ago they wouldn't release.

Walt Disney Co. is worried the documentary would endanger tax breaks the company receives from Florida, where Bush's brother Jeb is governor and where Disney World is located.

disney is a very liberal company, however they can be scared by the mafia like strong-arming of George W Bush.

1) Luvdems quote doesn't include the word "news".

Before you answer consider this study by Pew research for people and press. According to this, 8% of all Americans regularly get campaign-related information from comedy shows(!), and 18% more do sometimes; for the under-30 crowd, these percentages are 21% and 29%. For the internet, the percentages are 13%, 20% overall and 20% 24% for the under-30s.

2) I don't understand your comparison between the Matrix and Bowling for Columbine. Are you claiming that Columbine was shot in a movie studio? Are you claiming that The Matrix had a political agenda?

Moore accused of publicity stunt over Disney 'ban'
By Andrew Gumbel in Los Angeles

07 May 2004

Less than 24 hours after accusing the Walt Disney Company of pulling the plug on his latest documentary in a blatant attempt at political censorship, the rabble-rousing film-maker Michael Moore has admitted he knew a year ago that Disney had no intention of distributing it.

The admission, during an interview with CNN, undermined Moore's claim that Disney was trying to sabotage the US release of Fahrenheit 911 just days before its world premiere at the Cannes film festival.

Instead, it lent credence to a growing suspicion that Moore was manufacturing a controversy to help publicise the film, a full-bore attack on the Bush administration and its handling of national security since the attacks of 11 September 2001.

In an indignant letter to his supporters, Moore said he had learnt only on Monday that Disney had put the kibosh on distributing the film, which has been financed by the semi-independent Disney subsidiary Miramax.

But in the CNN interview he said: "Almost a year ago, after we'd started making the film, the chairman of Disney, Michael Eisner, told my agent he was upset Miramax had made the film and he will not distribute it."

Nobody in Hollywood doubts Fahrenheit 911 will find a US distributor. His last documentary, Bowling for Columbine , made for $3m (?1.7m), pulled in $22m at the US box office.

But Moore's publicity stunt, if that is what is, appears to be working. A front-page news piece in The New York Times was followed yesterday by an editorial denouncing Disney for censorship and denial of Moore's right to free expression.

Moore told CNN that Disney had "signed a contract to distribute this [film]" but got cold feet. But Disney executives insists there was never any contract. And a source close to Miramax said that the only deal there was for financing, not for distribution.

I really don't agree with the topic of this thread. Maybe the movie could be considered "blocked" if someone had said "Hey, we'll release this for you," but in this case, nobody did. Disney agreed to have Miramax finance the creation of it, but spoke not of release of it.

All media is biased, one way or the other. If you want to find out how biased the show is that you're watching, there are two key groups of words to look for:

Group 1: right-wing, conservative, Republican, paranoid, radical
Group 2: left-wing, liberal, Democrat, weak, radical

Bias can be somewhat measured by taking careful note of when people are introduced. As an example...

"Here to discuss the challenges facing multi-national corporations due to the still-reverberating technology sector collapse are our guest speakers this evening, the liberal Democrat Senator from New York, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and respected House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, Republican from Texas. Now, Senator Clinton, when you were elected to your seat, you were looked at as a key player in the left-wing bloc, looking to forward a more radical agenda than the well-thought out road map that our current administration has in place. Your efforts seem to have stalled, since our economy has begun recovering... Representative DeLay, multi-national corporations are faced with immense roadblocks........"

Could you see the bias? I hope you could, I tried to make it obvious. Mainstream media bias is a lot less blatant, in general, though Michael Moore seems to be the definite exception to the rule, and strangely, nobody calls him on it. Michael Moore is the epitome of the new Democrat -- echoing most of what Republicans sponsor, say, or believe, but wording and phrasing those echoes in such a fashion that it makes the GOP sound like the enemy.

I try, very very hard, to avoid political labels, but here are some of my beliefs: I would like to keep all of my freedoms intact for as long as I'm living in the United States, and not have to worry about unaccountable government departments that might decide I'm committing crimes against democracy and freedom, and decide to detain me under the USA PATRIOT Act, incidentally without a warrant, legal counsel, or in fact any rights at all. Also, I would like my children to have the right to choose their own life. I want my children to have the right to fail in school, I want my children to be smarter, stronger, faster, and more attractive than any other nation's children. Why do I want this? Because I want my children to have the absolute best everything in the world.

Holy God, look what happens when you smoke a bong and read P&L... derailed. I like what I wrote, though, so I'm going to leave it, and finish with a valid point.

Disney is perfectly allowed to not release Farenheit 911, and while I don't blame them, I *do* blame Michael Moore for creating this media noise for the express purpose of getting the film released through another studio and generating hype. My prediction: Farenheit 911 is set to release under another studio within the month, gets top 5 box office ratings 2 weeks in a row, overall mediocre ticket sales, but relatively impressive. Enter the lemmings.

Yahoo story

LOS ANGELES - Michael Moore (news)'s award-winning documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" has picked up a U.S. distributor and will hit theaters June 25.

The film will be released by a partnership of Lions Gate Films, IFC Films and the Fellowship Adventure Group, which was formed by Harvey and Bob Weinstein specifically to market Moore's film.

Moore's film, which recently won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival (news - web sites), criticizes President Bush (news - web sites)'s response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and connects the Bush family with Osama bin Laden (news - web sites)'s.

The Weinsteins, who run Miramax Films, bought the rights to the movie from The Walt Disney Co., which owns Miramax and refused to distribute "Fahrenheit 9/11."

The Weinstein brothers will personally finance and control distribution and marketing, they said Tuesday.

"I am grateful to them now that everyone who wants to see it will now have the chance to do so," Moore said in a statement.

"On behalf of my stellar cast ? GW, Dick, Rummy, Condi and Wolfie ? we thank this incredible coalition of the willing for bringing 'Fahrenheit 9/11' to the people."

Disney chief executive Michael Eisner said the company "did not want a film in the middle of the political process" because he believed that theme park and entertainment consumers "do not look for us to take sides."

In a settlement reached last week, the Weinsteins repaid their parent company for all costs of the film to date, estimated at around $6 million. Any profits from the film's distribution that go to Miramax or Disney will be donated to charity.
