Cannabinoids found in Japanese Umbrella Pine?
    #2753955 - 06/01/04 06:58 PM (18 years, 2 months ago)

Occurrence of a novel cannabimimetic molecule 2-sciadonoylglycerol (2-eicosa-5',11',14'-trienoylglycerol) in the umbrella pine Sciadopitys verticillata seeds.

Nakane S, Tanaka T, Satouchi K, Kobayashi Y, Waku K, Sugiura T.

Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Teikyo University, Sagamiko, Kanagawa, Japan.

The umbrella pine Sciadopitys verticillata seeds were found to contain a substantial amount (16.7 nmol/g) of sciadonic acid (all-cis-5,11,14-eicosatrienoic acid)-containing 2-monoacylglycerol, i.e., 2-sciadonoylglycerol (2-eicosa-5',11',14'-trienoylglycerol). Because the structure of 2-sciadonoylglycerol closely resembles that of 2-arachidonoylglycerol, the endogenous natural ligand for the cannabinoid receptor, we examined whether or not 2-sciadonoylglycerol exhibits cannabimimetic activity using NG108-15 neuroblastomaxglioma hybrid cells which express the cannabinoid CB1 receptor. We found that 2-sciadonoylglycerol induces rapid transient elevation of intracellular free Ca2+ concentration in NG108-15 cells through a cannabinoid CBI receptor-dependent mechanism similar to the case of 2-arachidonoylglycerol, yet the activity of 2-sciadonoylglycerol was apparently lower than that of 2-arachidonoylglycerol. The activity of 2-sciadonoylglycerol was detectable from 3-10 nM, reaching a maximum at around 10 microM. To our knowledge, this is the first report showing the occurrence of a cannabimimetic monoacylglycerol in higher plants.

So then you tell me, if it reacts with CB1 receptors does that mean there's a chance it might get you high?

I know some medical MJ users are looking into this for it's potential medical value.

Just to let everyone know, the seeds and even live plant are available online for this species. They appear to be very popular in bonsai   I know what tree I am growing this summer

^ Link to live tree, very beautiful.

^ Seeds, second link is VERY cheap.

Google will reveal more

That first link for seeds doesn't ship to the US, and the second one is ther wrong species.

The correct species is Sciadopitys verticillata

Yes, you're right, the second one is not the Japanese variety but still very nice if you are into bonsai.

As for the first link, know anyone in Canada? :smirk:

Looking for a US Supplier of seeds instead of trees, let me know if you find one.

Sorry about not replying, i didn't realize there were new posts in this thread, i've been busy lately and hte posts in EG have been piling up on me... anyways:

That there says that it does seem to bind to the CB1 receptor and cause a physiological change/action potential in the cell. So yes there is a chance it might get you high, but it also might not. There are other cannibanoids that bind to the CB1 that don't get you high. But if it binds it's a start. Now to see if it gets you high.
