Some sort of ascomycetes?
    #27536614 - 11/09/21 02:11 PM (2 years, 2 months ago)

Hello.

After a recent rain and a drop in temperature I've been noticing a lot of these popping up within a specific area:

It doesn't seem to have pores or gills. This specimen is pretty dried out.

Curious what you guys think.

Thanks for your time.

I believe it is Basidiomycetes, something similar to pigs ear mushroom, although I haven't been able to come up with a species for you.  Somebody probably will soon.

Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe it's age and the possibility of it's wrinkles or whatever shedding away has made it not so easy to identify.

Or could possibly be that your intuition is correct and maybe they are species of Ascomycetes fungus.  I'm not real familiar with them, and not real familiar with pores gilled Basidiomycetes species either ha.

It looks like the remnants of an old earthball (Scleroderma species) that has split open and released it's spores.

Ah yes I think you're right. Neat, I've never seen one that looked this way. Thank you very much.
