What kind of mushrooms are these? *PICS* EDITED
    #2750565 - 05/31/04 06:25 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I found these in my backyard today after it rained. I live in Illinois so I am not what sure what type they would be. I doubt they are edible, probably poisonous.

I am takin a print right now, so I will check it out in a few hours..... but
These grew in the grass of my backyard, they were scattered all around, mostly in the shade I believe and there still a bit moist.......these smell like the mushrooms you buy at a grocery store.........
The stem is thin, smooth, and about 2 inches long, cap is fragile about 1 1/4 of an inch wide.....
Underneath the cap it is a darker brown and the stem is a beige color...Im not sure what else to say about them....

The brown gills give it away, but aren't those stems pretty thick for Pan Foes?

HI-
I have a question about this kind of mushroom. I just flew in to Maine the other day, and it's been raining here lots. I went for a walk this morning, and came across a small patch of shrooms growing on a big pile of wood chips. They didn't look like anything in my field guide, but pan Foens was the closest match. The main diferance was a dark band of brown all the way around the edge of the cap. And the older ones were all brown...almost rotten looking. Do pan Foens grow on woodchips? I know they are more of a lawn mushroom. and can they have dark bands on them? thanks!

P.S. I am trying to get a spore print, but so far it's bare. the shrooms looked a bit old so hopefully i can still get one.
