I contend that it is socially irresponsible (and selfish) to have more than two children in today's world whether you can afford them or not due to the negative impact on our shrinking resources.

I am in the process of marketing peppermint flavored condoms. They are to be called "Condomints".

I agree 100% on that one! Most people haven't caught on yet...but we are running straight towards a steel reinforced concrete wall
Just wait until we hit the peak. After that, we'll be faced with a growing population and an ever decreasing energy supply. They say that we could feed the entire world right now, with the ammount of food that is produced worldwide, but we still have mass starvation and famine happening in many parts of the world. I wonder what it will be like when we really can't feed everyone on the planet!

That lady from Arkansas who just had her 15th kid was interviewed on my local news the other day.
they were like:"How many more kids are you gonna have?"
and she was like: "As many as God wants us to have."
Jeez, lady did you ever think that maybe God invented the silicone atom for a reason?

I was talking with a local here in Vegas who was bitching about the ever-increasing population (tripled in 5 years or so). "Damn people moving here from all over," he grumbled. "How many kids do you have?" I queried. He proudly responded, "Eight." Well, doh!

High infant mortality rates coupled with a fear of not being cared for in old age is what motivates people in the third world to have many kids, not ignorance of birth control.

i don't want to have kids unless my lover does cuz seriously, i don't want to expose a child to this evil world....and it would be really odd to see a minime walking around. "I MADE THAT....?" lol.
my belief is this population can be controlled with some effort.... i find it dissapointing when some people use religion as an excuse to make so many kids

i believe the world has to produce 2.2 worldwide net total children for each family. that will stabalize and gradually bring our numbers down to a more reasonable number.

2.2 will keep the population growing
2 will stabilize
<2 will cause it to shrink

Agreed.
And furthermore, if one truly must raise children, he or she could be so unselfish as to adopt--rather than create another child simply for the sake of 'having a kid of their own", of which motives behind such a notion can be debated as greedy.
Personally, I don't have any particular affinity for children nor do I have any interest in raising any. I'm far more of an animal person--I'll gladly take the adoption of dogs and cats and other domestic animals over the aforementioned circumstances any day.
Just curious--have you ever had any kids?
