ATi's PCI Express Line-up (X-series)
    #2753594 - 06/01/04 05:12 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Full article.

Here are a few highlights of the article, and pictures for those of you who do not want to read:

The R423 is the PCI-X version of the AGP R420. Commonly known as ATi Radeon X800 XT:

Here, we see the X600, which is the PCI-X successor to the 9600XT:

Now, the two "newer" lines are the X300. They are the lower end models of the X-series line; nonetheless in the second picture you see there is a X300SE (smaller, passively cooled) edition for the BTX case and motherboard:

In case you are unaware of what BTX is (Balanced Technology Extended), BTX is simply a new model of motherboard and computer layout which indeed is smaller. BTX cases are much smaller than standard ATX (Advanced Technology Extended). But don't worry, ATX won't die out for a long, long time.

You can read about BTX form factor here.

Finally, for any curious minds on the specifications of the X-series, you may view the Excel spreadsheet that Anandtech has kindly written up.

Looks promising!

They keep making the graphics ports faster and faster, when the card's output doesnt even require what already exists.

As i understand, no existing card 'needs' or utilizes anything at 4X AGP even. Yet we have 8x agp, and now PCI Express coming out, trying to phase out the AGP slot.

I didnt know PS/2 ports were considered 'old'.  I must not be keeping up with things fast enough...hehe... i consider serial port mice old.

So, the computer world wants all mice and keyboards to be USB now?
Wow. This stuff moves at a lightning pace.

Didn't you know? The cutting edge technology you order online is outdated by the time it gets shipped to your house!

P.S. PS/2 ports are easier on your computer than USB! If you want to utilize your SouthBridge and take some load of the other compnents (SB hardly juggles anything) give the PS/2 keyboard and mouse a try!

I'm actualy using ps/2 mouse/keyboard.  I didnt know (but suspected) that it took a load off things and let other components utilize USB.

So my question stands, why would they want to phase it out?
:wtf:

Ask yourself, would you rather have one standard connector unit or have a different connector unit for every single peripheral you own?

By the way, Naruto .
