My impression is that so many folks on here went down basically the exact same path as you. A few successful grows "breaking the rules" and then got their asses kicked by contam, and had to buckle down and actually learn to do it right. So it's a little disingenuous to knock you for what your writing.... But... Thing is, all the information to do it right is so accessible. Agar isn't hard and shouldn't be scary. Telling folks to use spores to grain, even when you add a disclaimer, is the confirmation other noobs are looking for when they are trying to figure out how to move forward in the hobby. They are begging for someone to tell them they can skip steps. Doing it the "right" way is easier, cheaper, and much more likely to work. "Lazy noobs" will find it much easier to do it right.

Again, I agree with the sentiment here but for me, I think that starting with spores to grain was good because it taught me everything I need to know except for agar, which is now going to be a very easy thing to add in to the process. I plan to try agar next time and after I use it I'm sure I won't go back to spores to grain. But I think it's not the worst idea for a noob to start with a tiny tub and try spores to grain to get the basics down, and then add in agar later. As a noob, I can assure you that agar does seem intimidating and is kind of that one extra step that made the whole monotub process seem too hard for me at the start. I know not everyone thinks the same way, but I think there's a lot to be learned from either method. If you can successfully grow with spores to grain, you can definitely do it with agar.
