does lions mane grow on straw?

okay, so i spawned a couple of jars of oysters and lions manes grown on rye grain to pasteurized straw. the oyster logs look amazing, they should be fruiting in 4 or 5 days i would think, but the lion's manes don't look like they are doing much. I know they grow best on sawdust from hardwoods, but i was convinced by someone who claimed to have done it before...give it to me straight shroomery, do lion's manes actually grow on straw? or did i just botch my first lion's manes project?
i could still be convinced, it took the jars of rye grain a little longer to colonize for the mane's than the oysters, and the mycellium was much harder to see, until it whitened up at the end...

I've grown them many times on straw. You'll get more flushes from hardwood sawdust, but they do grow on straw, newspapers, phone books and pf cakes to name a few. Here's one pinning on a mini-straw log. RR

Yup. I had a bag of colonized dowels, and a few of the projecs they inoculated were mini straw logs. The rest were driven into Alder logs. Nice eye. RR

i'm on day 11 for each of them, the oyster logs look fully colonized, i'm just waiting on pins to cut the bags open...the lions manes don't look white at all yet...it was hard to see the mycelium in the jars then it whitened up at the end, so i'm letting it go to see what happens, but i can't see any growth in the bags.

It's the same with sawdust. Look at this one fruiting while it 'looks' to only be partially colonized. It's the nature of the species. RR

This is off topic, but I figured i'd mention it here. Something surprising to me about this species is, it fruits rather well on whole grain alone. Give it a try and see how well it does. It's surprising!

it is fun to grow, my first bag or 2 actually did fully colinize before fruiting.

Yea, mine start to fruit invitro in the grain jars beginning right at full colonization. They also do fairly well on pf cakes. So far, it's grown on everything I've tried it on. RR

Can one fruit lions mane to like a tray of straw in a Martha tent or does it need like a tower or more than just one flat horizontal plane? I have some in an all in one type of bag but I have quite a bit of liquid culture as I first multiplied the original LC syringe. Hope you're doing well RR you're my hero 🤘☮️🤘

Probably shouldn’t bump a 14 year old thread please use the search function first and if you still can’t find the answers you seek, then make your own thread and ask your questions

Since it's bumped anyway...
No you don't want to use a tray, harvest will be a mess and you'll lose a lot of the fruit. Use a bag or bucket, something that holds in the substrate and only fruits out of a few holes.

This is second time I've done this I guess, "bumped" it doesn't seem to be ok. I come in peace though. -noted- on not commenting on old stuff. I'll shut up now 🤘☮️🤘
Also thanks Forrester. I have a large bag of pasteurized straw so I'll stick to that.
