The word you're looking for is cultivar, which is basically just a human stabilized phenotype. "Variety" formally refers to wild, geographically bounded phenotypes.

Cultivar is the same as a pheno that's been stabilized through breeding (what we'd call a stabilized variety), I'm talking about subcultures of a given live culture, and the names for various levels of exclusiveness we've assigned to these cultures as we narrow down the number of strains (multi-spore, clone, ....isolate, (proper) isolate, etc) not about preserving these characteristics through breeding.....
