DNA damage/mutation, maybe from a mycovirus or normal spontaneous mutation.

What makes you believe it is a mutation/virus?

M 1 through 5 were the first 5 melmac cultures I had and flushed. I though it was all from the same plate clones, but that was so long ago and my records at the time were trash or nonexistent. Anyways M1 has been replaced by M1A which is from my own spores. M2C is a clone of M2 which had interesting cap shape, like Nazi stormtrooper helmets. At the least I hope it produces as well as M2. M5X is a big dick clone of M5. M7 idek it's just some Melmac clone now
Basically my work got so dirty I had to clone clones to save my cultures and to produce more spores as I gave all mine away.
The plates look perfect now so I think I'll have better results than ever. Might get some proper 2nd flushes who knows!
Some of my Melmac are spore-lite if not sporeless or eveb clear spored. I should get a scope. Some are more laden but hold em in the gills nicely.
I need me some 8-10oz tubs again, a whole wall of them, multiple walls...

Ive had random sporeless flushes from a culture that usually produces spores

The whole flush?? What about 2nd flush? Should I harvest these and wait for the 2nd?

Someone also told me that swabs may work as cloning rather than spore carriers by getting micro tissue pieces attached to the swab. Is this true?

if you swab correctly you wont be getting tissue on the swab. if that happens I toss it and start over incase of bacteria. but judging by the amount of spores on the tissue I think its much more likely you'll be seeing ms growth especially if the tissue had dried out

I swab hard...
If there be spores and gills you would likely get germination and if the gills went into colonization too then there would be much self mating n such I would think.

yeah, definitely not impossible but not so likely I would think. youd need some crazy equiptment to ever test it and goodluck getting some gill tissue without spores on it

I had omni on grain and forgot it was a Melmak mutation. No clue if this one is a blobbing culture or one that throws more conventional fruits. 3 shoeboxes colonizing now.

I've got 3 different prints of MM to go to plates.
Have y'all had any problems growing these around cats?

My first foray into Melmac PE did not go great. I ended up posting a thread about my experience with a severely-compromised vendor spore syringe that appears to be beyond any hope of repair: Massively compromised/contaminated Melmac PE Vendor Syringe
I'm still trying to recover it but this might be a variety that slipped out of my grasp due to circumstances.

I've got a couple leftover plates from the same MSS that I expect to contaminate similarly, so this time around I'll take some pictures.
In the interim, the end result of putting this vendor MSS to agar is a number of discrete colonies (like a typical MSS inoculation), but each and every single colony also has a dark, maroon-brown aura or halo surrounding it. The aura isn't covering the top of the colonies, it's basically a ring that extends outward from each colony that has germinated. The plates also had a foul smell to them.
I still haven't given up on this syringe but I expect it to be a massive pain in the rear to clean.

I've never heard of a Mak print, only swabs. They don't typically spore drop. It'll be the same as any other cube around cats except it'll take longer because it's PE.

yeah from what I've seen Mak doesn't print very often.. slow growing and contaminates easy.. its difficult to say the least..
