Yeah it’s pretty good. Still needs to dry longer…and it will probably somehow get darker. I’m going to smash some into rosin and I will post that if you want to see.

That looks to me like it’s going to dry to 4-6 ounces.
Not too shabby, looks like good smoke.

I’m so curious how much this plant will weigh dry.

My guess is 60g.

Just a quick post wash with 99.9% Iso for that one. Not long enough to pull pigment from the bud itself. Maybe a little over half of the trichs were purple and the rest amber/ish so there is a little mix going on. Sure picked up some of the smell though. A few minutes out of the freezer and it started smelling like raisins.

Right on. Looks good.

I've thought about doing some quick wash with some fresh frozen stuff.

I've heard alcohol extracts can turn out pretty good when done right, quick & cold it seems is the trick.

I'm definitely only going to use it during veg and during cleanup between runs. It shouldn't take more than a couple weeks to treat a plant, if any mites survive into flowering I'll just let them be and deal with it.

Floramite has residual action for 28 days so that's one reason to not use it during flowering. The other two I think are systemic meaning they actually travel through plant tissue and that kind of concerns me. I've read conflicting reports about half lives and toxicity though. I'm thoroughly reading every label and MSDS to make sure I'm following cautions. You're right in that they're probably not legally permitted to be used on cannabis, you might know more about that than me being in a regulated state. The labels say they're only for ornamentals, but Floramite recently got approval for greenhouse tomatoes. Seems likely that it's probably okay to use during veg. At least to clean up some moms and take some clean clones.

Is there a list of industry accepted pesticides?

Are you in the path of that "atmospheric river"? Good luck man!

I gotcha.

I just remember when I was dealing with mites last year I came across a few of those and they just stuck out in my mind as being some "heavy" pesticides/not for human consumption.

I don't know much about em' though, never looked into em' all that much

And yea...I am in the path of that AR. Though most of the dumping is happening a bit farther north of me, as well as the winds. About 2 inches of rain where I am with 20mph to 30mph winds, but some areas just a bit farther north will likely get 10+inchs of rain and 50mph gusts....It has been pretty windy so far today but not as bad as I thought it was going to be, the worst of the winds should peak within an hour or so the start to settle.

The wind is what I was most worried about, specifically concerned about the reeds/supports snapping or failing somehow from the added weight/pressure/stress of the wind blowing on the tarps. So once that passes I'll feel a bit more at ease. The plants are covered pretty well otherwise and the rain shouldn't be an issue.

I smoked some of the Mac1 for the first time today, a bud I pulled early about 6 days ago.

Stuff is nice. Pretty potent and has me lit & floating but it is a really focused high, has some energy to it too it seems.

What a chunk!

One of the branches/tops I pulled early from the Kush-Cake has a similar structure (and size), the thing is like a grenade.

Oh man! I got a killer batch of afgooy in 07. It literally made me see colored spots on my ceiling after a couple bong rips.
It was really ruff looking also. It had like crispy brown and purple leaves on the outside but when you got into the nuggets it was beautiful and looked like maple syrup was dripped on it.

Cool!

I was actually wondering about that. I had never heard of either of the parents in that cross and just haven't got around to looking it up.

I was getting Afgooey back around 07 too, 06-ish to 09-ish.

That was one of the regular/common strains that was around my area back then. My friend sold herb back then and that was one he had from time to time.

I vaguely remember it having a classing sweet-kush-hashy-incense taste, like some "good ol' weed", a classic "weed" flavor. Tight resinous buds...It's been so long since I've had it though I forget its exact character, I do remember liking it a lot tho lol.

This storm seems to not be nearly as gnarly as it was looking like it was going to be, at least in my little region/micro climate. I do kinda sit in a rain-shadow. Depending on the direction/orientation of the storm, sometimes the coastal mountain range to the west soaks up a lot of the moisture/energy of incoming storms.

No doubt the northern parts of the state have got hammered tho...and I'm sure we'll still get a good soaking rain later tonight, but so far it hasn't been anything much besides some gusty winds. Seems like the winds are starting to calm down now too over the past hour or so.

How much of that tree is your own work?

Kinda wondering, do you guys stabilize after every cross?

I would think that would be a necessity in order to create stable strains with desirable traits.

the only part i played in it was crossing jawa pie male with layer cake x chocolate nightmare. i havent even grew it out yet. im just on the 1st part. but i will continue breeding.

mainly with my strawberry mimosa evo tho. i wont be playing alot with the others ones as much.

i did spray some STS last night right when lights was turning off.
sprayed only one branch on 3 plants

strawberry mimosa evo (so i can stablize with)
somango  (want to bx so i have more of the somango)
mimosa evo x orange punch (very pretty and potent, so i want the pollen for other stuff)

i just copied the tree from other sites

Yes. The new strain won't be stable until F5 or F6. Even then you can still experience phenotypes but they'll be reduced to two or three with one dominant and the rest recessive.
There's a couple of opinions on how to get there. Depends on the breeder. Neither is really right or wrong.
My preference is..
F1 selection for F2. Male and female.
F2 selection for F3. Female.
F3 selection for BX to original F1 male. Some don't BX. But I like the school of thought that it adds vigor and reduces phenotypes (oddly enough).
F4 selection for F5. Male and female.
F5 selection for F6. Male and female.

That's awesome work Hobbit! Thanks for that. I was wondering about lcxn and getting close to asking lol.

It’s funny I can pretty much date stuff by that lineage. I remember when train wreck and master kush were huge in LA, and then GSC was big for a long time right after I’d quit smoking cuz the high thc stuff was freaking me out.

I decided to risk trying a new drying method out since my current ten day one requires lots of work opening tubs and moving buds around every day.

Went old school

I was thinking the same thing when I saw Starfighter lol. That was a popular cut back then.

Nothing wrong with old school. Just so long as it doesn't dry too fast. If it starts you can sweat it in jars or tubs to even out the moisture and slow it down.

My current breeders conundrum lol. Mugato is at F2. Two phenotypes really grabbed my attention for going to F3. I love using reversal as a sneak peek into potential futures so I reversed one father dominant phenotype and selfed it. At the time I had phenotype 2 (mother dominant) handy so I let the donor pollinate her as well. Mostly for kicks at the time.
Now the problem. A trait I consider is the seeds themselves. This is a trait you really want to watch when it comes to stabilization.
The seeds on the left are from the deviant cross to the lavender phenotype #2. These are preferable over the S1 seeds on the right. However, it's the purple phenotype #1 that grabbed my attention first.

Both phenotypes are killer potent and have great flavor.
#1 has been the better producer. Dark purple too. Which I like. The only thing that bothers me so far is the seeds. IME.. small seeds can have take off issues. Light and moisture sensitivity mostly. Things that a practiced grower can easily handle but I try not to forget the beginner and make it easy for all.
That's where phenotype #2 mucks up the master plan. Those are mother dominant seeds and I know her well. She's easy and fast. Good for space issues with a short stout build. Still a good producer, just not quite as good as #1 has been.

I was hoping writing it all out would help ugh. Not really  I'm on a male pollen dependent time clock thus the self induced stress lol. All is not dire but I'd like to save myself some work.

i really am in love with all of this. thanks @the_chosen_one , your helping me learn. i appreciate the help and support.
im just trying to learn as much as i can.
i have found this im reading up on. about how to develop a F1 and how to develop a BX
https://www.alchimiaweb.com/blogen/basic-nomenclature-cannabis-genetics/

its a nice read for me to learn whats what in an easy way.

do you have any other info or sites i can read and learn about stabilizing and breeding?

I'm waiting for my first pollination to finish up and then I plan to dive almost entirely into pheno hunting those seeds... I have some other promising cross ideas, and now plenty of pollen to chuck... just gotta get the dirt on my hands and log the hours...

Bro! You doing some shit! Nice!

I just started experimenting with breeding  about three years ago.  I’m working with on the f3 now.

Man, it gets really complicated trying to keep track of what’s what. Especially when your messing around with reversing plants and making feminized seeds. I’m just working on reg beans for now….trying to keep it simple.

The storm has passed...The sun is shining, light breeze.

I can't wait to pull the tarps off so my plants can soak up some pure sunshine.

It was raining pretty heavily all night long, def turned out to be a hefty storm. From about 9pm last night until about an hour ago it was coming down the entire time, basically 12 hours of persistent rain. Pretty sure we got around at least 2.5 inches of rain.

My plants are 100% dry though  .

I checked on em' a few times through out the night, it was nice seeing them all cozy & dry under the tarps while it was absolutely dumping pouring rain around them all night.
