Is this an East Texas Truffle

Habitat: Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc. They are growing under ground surface among our 6-yr-old pine trees. I first saw them last year. They push the ground up this time of year and resemble rocks. I’m not sure they are growing “on” anything, but could be growing in sub-surface pine tree roots. I have read that east texas truffles grow on young (5YO) pine tree roots.
Gills: Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc. Difficult to tell since they are covered with this red dirt, but appear ti be cream color to a tan color.
Stem: Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc. There doesn’t appear to be much, if any, of a stem. Just a small bulbous formation with a few roots(?).
Cap: Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc. Basically freeform formations, as can be seen in the attached photo. They are firm. The color of the center is dark greyish color and is very firm. I’m pretty sure these are mature mushrooms, when they break through the surface of ground. The photo shows a good representation of the center. That entire center is firm throughout.
Spore print color: Very important! Not sure what this is. The center is very dark greyish color. The photo is good color representation.
Bruising: Color that the mushroom bruises, if any. None. Does not appear to bruise.
Other information: Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills. Has a strong earthy smell. (Sorry, thats the best I can describe it.) Also, after the mushroom has broken through the top of the ground and most of it is above ground and sat there for a week or two , the top splits and it appears to rot, then quickly dries out.

Looks like young earthballs (Scleroderma citrinum perhaps?). Seems to fit the habitat as well.

Yes, From what I have read they are very similar in appearance and where they grow. I can’t find comparison information which states the difference(s) between these two. I could look this up again, but do you know if scleroderma citrinum are edible? Also you said “young ones”. What are the mature ones like? (Anything like I described under other information?) I thought those were puffballls, which we also have on our property.

Toxic/Not edible if they are earthballs.

Ultimate Mushroom - Scleroderma Citrinum
Your statement about them staying around for a couple weeks then 'rotting' is likely just the spore release occurring after they have matured.

Ok, I’m pretty sure these are not scleroderma citrinum. After some research, it appears that type of schroom grows above ground to begin with. The ones I have all grow completely underground, only to break through the top of the ground near the end, about a week (2 at most) before the top splits and the rotting process/spore expulsion takes place.

What I have is definitely NOT what you have pictured in your post. (Please see the picture I provided in my post.) My mushrooms (Truffles?) never grow a defined stem, and never open up like the one you provided. Mine only just break the ground surface. Some days after that, the top splits open to release spores and then it dries up.

Yes, I believe it is this is what I have. Either this, or one of the closely related species. I can’t find if this is edible, and I’m not willing to be a guinea pig, so I guess I won’t get to have my truffle farm. Too bad!

Did you click on the link that I provided? The mushrooms posted in my comment are from my signature, they have nothing to do with this post, the mushroom expert link that I provided is what you should be checking.
Edit: They are NOT edible, edible puffballs will have a creamy or pure white flesh.
