Agar Plate Not Looking Like I Expected. Can I get some advice?
    #27508087 - 10/17/21 03:07 PM (2 years, 3 months ago)

I am new to agar plates. I inoculated these with spore prints. I suppose I was expecting to see rhizomic spawning like in the YouTube videos I have watched, but these look like there are multiple things going on here.

I did not make the plates, I ordered them.

These are Cambodian and Jedi Mind F***. I labeled them, and have been storing them upside down in a 75*f chamber. What do you think, are there any useable parts here or are these contaminated?

Plates 1, 2, 4, 5 are all trash IMO

Plate 3 is the best looking one and there is blue bruising showing on the lower colony, the upper colony on the plate
looks like straight mold. But even that good growth doesn't look great, meaning I wouldn't bother to safe this in your
situation with pre-made dishes cause they are expensive and you will probably need a few transfers to clean that up.

Start making your own dishes, no pour is very easy to make and once you got your own you can "waste" as many as you wish.

What is your technique? Are you using a SAB? You transferred the spores with a flame sterilized tool?

I agree with baba yaga. Make your own plates.
Do you have a pc?

I start my new cultures on grain, then transfer a colonized grain to agar.
Starting cultures quickly
