Having problems
    #2750479 - 05/31/04 07:58 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Ok well I have been growing for a few months. My first cake did really well, very big fruits i was happy. But after that cake, none of them have been as good. This new cake I have is producing small mushrooms with small caps. Its frustrating because im trying to do exactly what i did on the first cake but they just wont turn out as good. I am fanning at least 3 times a day, sometimes more. When i fan i usually mist the container. I have about an inch of perlite on the bottom. My room stays pretty warm most of the time, shouldnt drop below 72 ever.

Can anyone tell me what i could be doing wrong to get small fruits like this? Peace.

Cakes from the same strain let alone the same syringe can produce fruits and flushes of different sizes and numbers

Yeah I've heard that before, it just seems like I have been doing something wrong. I guess it could just be bad luck though, maybe the humidity in my containers is too low? Thanks, peace.

One of two possibilites, IMO:

1)Cakes dont have enough water

2)Bad genetics

Take your pick.

I fan 3 or more times a day. I dont have a humidity measuring thing, so im not sure about that. I do mist the sides of the containers and everything to keep it up.

Alounacara i think your right, i just am nervous about doing casings because i think i will fuck it up. But if i want to do casings then i have got to start trying haha. Is it possible to get good results on a verm only casing? Peace.

It's defintely possible to get good results with a verm only casing. As a matter of fact the first time I ever grew I did casings. Simple as eh, pie. Mmm pie.

Don't let casings intimidate you, just go for it---you'll be surprised how easy it is. Read up real good and vermiculite will work by itself. Best of luck to you!

Ok, I would like to do a big casing, but since this will be my first one i want to do a little one just to get the hang of it. Would it be ok to use a ceramic bowl, you know like a cereal sized one? Its good that it isnt clear right, so all the fruits will be on the top.

From what i understand, i want to take a cake, put it in a plastic bag and use a fork to break it up into like marble sized peices. Then take my bowl, put a layer of verm down on the bottom, 2/3 inch thick?
Then i put a layer of the broke up cake, then one more layer on top of the cake layer? And all the verm should be pretty wet right?

If this is wrong tell me haha. Thanks, peace.
