TedsDead and AyePlus both send me swabz. One of the two produced a plate pin IIRC. From there I got everything I produced until more recently have used my own swab. I still have a couple of my original clone cultures limping along. I think I actually have M5 cleaned up again.

I hope someone can help me here, I'm at my wits end. On 9/21 I spawned 3 different melmac strains to CVG at 3:1, 9 in xls-a bags, and the last in a shoebox for a control. On 9/29 the shoebox was 100% colonized but the bags were like 25-30%. On 10/7 the first pins started forming on the shoebox, and none of the bags are even fully colonized. I've unfurled the bag tops about 5 days ago, and cut holes in bags 2 days ago thinking they needed FAE but they don't appear be growing much but I can't tell if they are forming primordia anyway. The shoebox was made in the middle, so it's not like I did the shoebox first and spread some bacteria to all other bags. And again, there are three strains here. I cut one bag down to the sub and put it in a shoebox to see what will happen there. What could be causing this and what should I do at this point? Thanks

Wish I could help. They look just fine to me. That is taking quite a while to pin. MS genetics? My colonized bags don't look very colonized, and will pin at about the 2.5 week mark. As soon as I see knots i poke holes like bhuddaking? instructed, 2 on each side about 2 inches above sub and cover w micropore. Seem to take off.

Do you find that melmac specifically often doesn't look 100%. colonized in bags? Because the same strain in a shoebox looks 100%. If you look at pics closely, do they look like primordia to you? Thanks.

I find that they respond well to being left alone. Let em do the work, don't open the vessel too much

Kidcharlemagne, this is kind of what I meant. Just never colonizes all the way for me, may be how I mix it all up

All the bags are pinning now even with brown spots. I cut holes in the bags and eventually left the bags open entirely and they exploded. They were def not getting enough FAE.

My Melmak Revert is just about to start pinning! can't wait! Looking much better than my blobbed SWPE tub. Has anyone tried both Melmak and SWPE? How do they compare?

Well I guess I had nothing to fear. Just harvested first bag. 712 grams wet, drying now. I've got some monsters - I'd like to keep them whole, but will they take forever to dry? I have an oven with a dehydrator option so I didn't have to cut to fit. Definitely sticking with melmac here on out. They do seem to do much better in bags but they take much longer to colonize and I had to give them considerable FAE (many holes and an open top) to get it to fruit and avoid fuzzy feet.

Ime Melmak get tons of fuzz no matter what a lot of times.
With fruits that size you really gotta split them otherwise the outside dries into a shell while the inside is still wet.
With mine I split the stems up to the cap like four times so it looked like jellyfish. That way they kinda look like whole mushrooms still.

I haven't run bags, but unmodified tubs with ~8oz dry seems pretty good IME. I'll stick to bags of grain over bagged sub.
I pop the cap off the stem and then split them both into 2 or more pieces depending on size.

Dang that 712 gms wet dried to 42.5gms. Still an 1.5 oz per qt first flush I'm happy with. We'll see if I get a second.

If you pulled 712g wet out of a bag your sub is probably dusted. Was that 1 quart spawn? Nice work 👏

Yea i agree that will leave a really sparse second flush, but damn that's quite the dry down at 6% dry weight.
