Mexican Navy helps DEA seize 2.5 tons of meth, 100k fentanyl pills

The Mexican Navy and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration seized 2.5 tons of methamphetamine and 100,000 fentanyl pills headed to the U.S. Authorities made the bust last week after spotting a speedboat, which was transporting five people in an irregular manner near Ensenada, Mexico.

In addition to the methamphetamine and fentanyl, authorities seized 15 pounds of marijuana and over 700 gallons of gasoline. DEA officials said the narcotics were on the way to the Gulf of California, where they would then have been delivered to various distribution hubs across the U.S.

“You take one percent of that shipment coming to Jacksonville, it’s 50 pounds of meth,” explained DEA Assistant Special Agent Mike Dubet. “Fifty pounds of meth to the Jacksonville area would supply not only Jacksonville, but the surrounding counties for several weeks.”

Two Mexican nationals have been faced with federal charges of conspiracy to import tons of illegal narcotics into the U.S. with a minimum of 10 years in U.S. federal prison upon conviction.

I'm disappointed that they didn't measure the fentanyl in "enough to kill X number of Americans".

When it's already pressed into pills its hard to pretend that its 100% fentanyl. Not that I would be surprised if they tried anyways.

Fentanyl is also sold in high dose pills that are intended for cutting, not taking directly. 10, 20, 30 mg. I saw it in another news story posted in this section a couple weeks ago.

But I'd argue despite each pill being lethal, that way is safer. You could dissolve it in a beaker of water or vodka and dose it volumetrically. Whereas if it's cut, you have to really trust whoever did the cutting, and guess about the dosage. (I'm speculating about this; I have no direct experience.)
