ID of Iowa shrooms
    #2744485 - 05/29/04 01:57 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

I live in Iowa. On a walk home, there was a bunch of hay or straw or something on the ground that's been there for, like...years. This time, however, there were shrooms growing. Many of them seemed pretty dry (not all, though), but I picked them. Here's their info...

Habitat: Hay or straw, in Iowa
Gills: Appear to be attached to stem, light brown
Measurements: Average cap size- about an inch
Biggest cap size- about 2 inches
Average stem length- about 2 to 3 inches
Stem: Light brown, seems hollow
Caps: Light brown and white. Some are wavy, mostly like a dome, though
Spore print: Light brown
Bruise: Didn't appear to bruise to any color, but most of them were dry when I picked them.

Please help me ID these as soon as you can! Thanks in advance.

Here's some pics to help out:

Really, any help would be greatly appreciated... My step brother's getting on my case about these, but I keep telling him that we won't eat em until I get them ID'd from the shroomery. So please, somebody help me out!

Definitely not active.

My first thought is that they are Agrocybes.

The spore print color is not one you want if you're looking for actives. You want one that would be black or dark purplish brown.

Happy mushrooming!
