It would be a good way to grow mycelium in honey jars but I'm wondering if you could mix the piece of brf cake with sterilized spring water and innoculate directly with it. This way the honey water can be avoided altogether.

That, too will work. Shards of broken glass are left in the jar. A good strong shake will rip up the colonized substrate.

It is also much faster, if you see how long it takes for spores to make mycelium on agar, and than how long a piece of mycelium takes to expand, you can imagine mycelium works much better.
Your cakes are sterile enough, when working sterile the H2O2 can be left out!!

My Third Eye, you were talking about blobs of mycelium in honey water. I've tried honey water twice. The first time was a no go. I think I put in too much honey. The second time has been going for several days and I see blobs of what could possibly be mycelium, but I thought that it was supposed to be stringlike in honey water. Both strains, GC and B+ have blobs in them. I thought that it was sediment from the honey. I'm hesitant to use it as I don't want to ruin a batch of jars. Can you describe the difference between sediment and mycelial "blobs"?
Thanx

Try making up a solution of 8% dextrose instead of using honey, it is much more reliable. Works with spores or a chunk of fuzz from a cake...fuzz is faster...takes at least a week for spores to do anything.

My pet dolphin's grandfather innoculated 8 jars with mycelia water just 48 hrs ago [cambos], and there are already tiny spots of growth starting. This is on a new experimental "souped up" substrate that may either help or hinder growth. The recipie will get posted if it works as well as the mad scientist hopes it will.
