Fruit flies suck.
They're worse than mold.
As they run around and burrow into casings they will stunt pinning and spread contaminants.
Steps:
1. Dismantle chamber(s) and move all infected substrate outside.
2. Completely dry out chambers, disinfect [10% bleach is good].
3. Wait a couple of weeks before introducing new substrate. During this time check on any houseplants or other 'soil' spots where the flies could be hanging out.
Good luck, flies are the plague.

I have a bunch of flies hanging out in my living room. but I add some h2o2 to the water of my humidfier and that seems to keep the atmosphere of the terrarium hostile to the flies.

Hey! i?ve had the same problem and solved it easily: I?ve poured destillated water on the jars/tray and leaved it 24 hours. After that, all the fly larvas where death and the mushroom not. You?ll have to clean your terrarium/aquarium anyways and desinfect everything you may use for that, but remember: keep your cake under water for 24 hours, there is no fly whos gonna survive that! And our friend the mushroom does! After that i?ve got lots of newborne pins and the mycelium was growing like crazy everywhere!!! :mushroom2:

There is a BT available for fruit flies. Never tried it yet, so can't vouch for whether it works or not. I use sticky paper. Works like a charm. Place it near the entrances to your grow area, and also on the inside. They're likely breeding in your houseplants too. A good cure for both houseplants and casings with fruit flies is dunking. A 24 hour dunk will drown them and their larvae.

Ok this is what I have used with an awsome amout of success. Dont knock me for it please but it realy truely works well. Drink a six pack and leave the last inch or two of brew in the bottom. Place them all around. After a few days the beer will ferment cousing the bugs to go crazy for it, drawing them away from the casings/bags/what have you. They may appear to have all gone away but there will be more to fallow in a week or so. So keep drinking the beers. No chemicals no sticky traps just beer. It realy works wonders! Trust me.

Yes as the borrow into the fruits body they will open doors for contamanation to get it. You may notice the stem turnind dark and ooze/moisture weeping from its wounds.

Does anyone know if Diatomaceous Earth would help cut down fruit flys or mites?

I highly doubt DE would do anything to stop flying insects, it only effects the kritters that crawl over it.
