The mushrooms that didn’t abort in that tub do have that overhydrated look, but it could also just be a shitty culture.
Sometimes you get one that pins really well but then mostly aborts, it’s the worst.

In my experience, shoeboxes sitting out by themselves perform poorly. I fruit my shoeboxes in a monotub with micropore tape over the holes.

Years ago I used to grow loads of T3 thai cubensis, they were very enjoyable during the day.
I don't see any mention of them anymore.

AKA what do you mean by overhydrated look? Do you mean those stretch marks on the taller fruits? I just harvested a 3rd flush ape and they all had those stretch marks and were more long and thin than short and fat. I was thinking maybe I overmisted.

What happens when you plant grass to a pure coir jar, let the grass grow, PC the whole thing, and then transfer semi myc to it?
Gonna find out

Thanks A.k.a, could you please elaborate on the "overhydrated look"?
Also keeping in mind that: when adding substrate to the spawn, I made sure I squeezed each handful of substrate as hard as I could, until there were only 1 or 2 droplets of water leaking from my hand.
And since it seems that genetics or not, overhydration is a problem of mine here, what could I do to have a substrate less hydrated?
I have a Spawn/Sub ratio of 1:1. Substrate being CVG.
By a ratio of 1:1, I mean that I mix 1 jar of Spawn with 1 jar of Substrate - and I am talking of volume here. So I put 3 jars of Spawn and 3 jars of Substrate in this shoebox.
Or did I fuck this up and should be considering an equal weight of Spawn to an equal weight of Substrate?

Use less water if it's over hydrated.

It’s kind of hard to explain but when they’re too wet they get dark and the caps get lumpy.
They also just have “a look” which I know doesn’t help but after you’ve grown for a minute you’ll get an eye for it.

I feel like big beads of moisture on the surface creates less pins than tiny beads on the surface. My boxes that look more lighter brown and smaller beads seem to have more pins than my boxes with a lot of big beads of water (I don't mean pooling though).

Thanks for the input everyone I'll lower the water content of my CVG prep for my next shoebox.

2 shoeboxes of maz that grew these off white/light yellow booger things on the surface. It's probably contams but it's strange that it only grows on the surface and the myc decides to pin on the sides instead.

Yeah prob bacterial. Some of those will leak some juices but some just chill. It's just new to me that the top will avoid pinning if there's metabolites but the sides will pin fine and quite abundantly.
I've got more jars of these so I'll probably spawn them into cups and pop them out like cakes once it gets side pins since the metabolites seem isolated to the top surface only.

It looks really really wet. Like really wet.
It's got a top layer when I spawned, but never tried a casing layer.
That's good to know about the wetness. I actually thought big beads of water=good, but recently I've found that smaller beads usually initiates more pinning.

I was knocking up some jars yesterday and decided to try a new method.
I took a thin strip from the plate and dropped it into a syringe, then sucked up a few ml of water and shook it up really hard.
Couldn’t really see any myc floating in the water so I’m not expecting much but we’ll see. I think with real soft agar it would work pretty well, you could probably even squirt the agar out at the end play doh style.
