First Time. Please advice
    #2747075 - 05/30/04 02:19 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

Greetings, I am no stranger to the world of mushrooms but I am looking to expand a bit into growing other medicinals. I have grown shiitake and PC in the past. Once a year I am bit by the mycobug and get mushroom happy and this year I am going to buy an indoor patch from a well known vendor (not shroomery sponsor or I would mention)

The three that strike me as interesting are
Reishi, Hypholoma sublatertium (Cinnamon cap), and Turkey Tail (trametes versicolor). My question is, How do the yeilds/flushes differ between these three? I am very interested in something I will be able to cook with and I have never tried any of these three. Is one of these three superior , what would your choice be.

Thank you for tolerating such a generic and newBified post.

I am also new to mushroom cultivation and am definitely going to grow Reishi mushrooms.  I was wondering how you'd approach a health food store about them buying your homegrow mushrooms and what types of health food stores you'd gone to.  Did you go to like a GNC-type store or a wild oats market type or what?

I think if it's your first grow, btw, then you should figure out what one of those is going to be easiest for the most end result.  It's cool to get to know the lifecycle of the fungus

I don't think reishi or trametes versicolor are used in cooking, they're too tough... I've only heard of them being used in medicinal teas/extracts. Never tried hypholoma sublaterium.

I went ahead and bought an Oyster mushroom kit. I'm going to research this forum and hopefully get to the point where I can grow them from scratch. Thanks for the help.

For cooking with maybe the cinamon cap would be good. Reishi takes so so so so soooooo long to grow. Turkey tail can be found in the wild so you wouldnt need to grow them to obtain them.
