A wood lovers substrate question.
    #27470330 - 09/16/21 08:47 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I want to use HWFP’s oak/alder  50/50 mixed with kiln dried aspen pet bedding thats been pasteurized and add a small jar of hydrated bran that’s been sterilized in the PC, mixed in when grain spawn ( reishi , lions mane) is introduced, as soon as the pasteurized substrate cools.  I’m trying to save power/energy/time by only pc’ing the contamination prone ingredients.
Is it possible to sterilize the ingredients that cause most contamination in my PC ( grain bran ) and mix them in pasteurized substrate at spawning with success?

I don't see why not, you can also load wood chips into spawn bags and colonize them that way.

I’m working to eliminate  single use plastic’s I’m shopping for a tub that fits neatly in my pressure cooker so I can make a transfer into a clean croping container in front of my flow hood the bags are filling up landfills , we can all do better.

Just an FYI on bags,, there are biodegradable options out there as well. Unicorn has some. Haven't tried but might be something to look into.

Yes I would highly recommend the biodegradable bags by unicorn it's all I use. They don't create micro plastics either, the outer layer is able to be colonized by bacteria and will actually begin to rust away and degrade and be consumed by bacteria as well as oxygen, heat and UV speeding up the process. They only last a few months on shelves though so use them quickly
