Are you serious? Clearly there is a pipeline being built from Alaska to the lower 48.

Well that wasn’t your original argument. Being built or planned? I seriously doubt any of those pipelines are actually being built.

my original argument was to illustrate that we have the techology and conceptual infrastructure. sometime tells me we wouldn't simple be able to just "turn off" the gas and "turn on" water, but the right-of-ways are in existence so we could build a water pipeline alongside them.

No your original argument was we pipe oil from Alaska as proof we can pipe water across the US. Well we don’t pipe oil from Alaska probably because it’s actually difficult to do.

Do you have any clue how big a pipe would have to be to even supply one medium sized city with water? I know the pipeline that supplies water to my part of the county (maybe serving 500,000 people) is 40 feet in diameter.

These pipelines have to be buried because that size pipe carrying water under pressure would require walls feet in thickness. How do you plan on getting water up the mountains? The amount of energy required would be ridiculous. You would have to stage pumps every 100 feet or so in elevation. You can’t have a segment of pipe that decends more than 30 feet without staging, because that is the maximum height of a water column possible.

I would not be surprised if the amount of energy required to move that much water across the country exceeds the entire output of every electrical plant in the nation.

Now we all better calm down or morrows going to find out we've been writing in his diary and we're going to be in trouble!

Paradox, your making yourself look like a fool! Stop talking!

Yea I mean a straight shot of a pipeline from alaska to the lower 48 isn't even the longest stretch of pipelining we're doing. It's an easy idea to illustrate that's been planned a dozen times over, mostly built, and unfortunately most likely will get finished after Trudeau is out of office.

so yea, idk about misrepresenting facts. The fact of the matter is, we already have the technology to build the infrastructure that would be needed, its not like oil/gas pipelines would all of a sudden not be needed. the fact you want to jump in on a dog pile of semantic bickering is nice though. is that all you got?

Your link proved nothing, and what was it supposed to?

The fact is you said we're piping shit from alaska and I'm still not seeing it. And you sitting here saying it's in progress in a reaction to you saying it IS happening. I'm not saying it's impossible or non beneficial, but what your saying doesn't line up with what your linking. Simple as that.

NYC uses 10.2 million cubic meters of water per day. To pump that much water up 1000 meters would require over 1 gigawatts of electrical power

Not a pipeline. It’s a tunnel. That goes down hill. Moving water uphill is a whole different ballgame.

I mean a pipeline is just a smaller tunnel, both are subject to closed channel flow hydrologics.

Clearly moving water uphill is a totally different ballgame. and 10.2 million cubic meters of water isn't even the biggest of the waste water treatment plants. The chicago waste water treatment plant is the largest treatment plant in the US at a little over 1 billion gallons of water (nutrient laden mind you) discharges into the Mississippi River.

NYC barely treats it, they just pipe it some distance of the shore of Long Island into the ocean.

But yes, it does take energy for that water to go up. But you're taking freshwater and making it saline. So, unless you are going to increase evaporation in the oceans you will need .833kWh of energy for 1 cubic meter of water (more or less depending on tech). So to desalinate that 10.2 million cubic meters you would more or less need 10 million kWh of energy to desalinate it. Which is wayyyyy more then your 1 gigawatt figure.

The point is that regional sourcing of greywater merely offsets regional losses of water due to outflows and just increases losses due to evapotranspiration, albiet it at a slower rate. To increase water reserves (or more like replace water lost in the drought from 2003 - 2016 in which LA lost like 63 cubic kilometers of water from its ground water) you need to look at the greater water cycle and see how it functions on a continental level. The north east can't deal with all the rain it is getting, the south west needs its water. Hurricane Sandy, for instance, not that bad of a hurricane. Pretty run of the mill. But due to a lot of factors, it cause $4 billion in storm damage. This could have been some what mitigated by more places for the water to go to.

Also it would have been nice to just turn on a pump and just drain the region. But that's a "pipe dream".

Bro musk is gonna tunnel it next to his hyperloop with his amazing mole bore he personally invented because he's a genius who's gonna rocket launch humanity to Mars and shit. I mean we've seen other places build longer pipelines than what your talking about. The problem isn't it can't be done the problem is a cost thing. Building an oil pipeline just prints money whereas water isn't even close to as valuable.

ALL the tribes and rez's could have great housing and such for ALL of them but NOOOOOO, they are greedy sacks of fucking shit now.:scat:
