Well on the east coast it rains and the water innundates lignin and fungi breaks it down. So basically fire or fungi.
And then I mean anywhere with oxygen and wood is prone to fire. The southeast burns, the northeast burns. Shit, we used to prescribe burn in Central PA.
And we would get water from the EC to the WC with pipelines, kinda like how we pipeline oil/gas from alaska to the lower 48. Denver gets some of its water from west of the Rockies via underground pipelines.

There’s no pipeline from Alaska to the lower 48. What are you taking about. Piping water across the continent is completely absurd.

What is absurd is takign billions of gallons of water a day that really only has a little organic contaminants in it and pumping it into salt water. Which is the current wastewater treatment strategy in the majority of our metropolises. Desalination plants are coming online in some parts of California, only because of water scarcity though.
Piping water back across its natural gradient will increase rainfall across the country which also will stop desertification.
Koods, you're from DC you'll like this.
You can charge like 3x the property tax for farm/grass land that you can for desert land. Also a pipeline like that will create jobs in every demographic in the country. Boom. Jobs creation, wealth redistribution without inflation, and an increase in the value of the land resource. Also a stockpiling of fresh water which is a commodity.

Wow, your knowledge of geopolitical borders is so impressive you clearly missed the portion of the red dotted line of the under construction portion of a pipeline leaving Alaska to tie into the network of pipelines that services from upper Canada to the Midwestern United States.
Ok, so we have the technology to move hazardous liquids from one part of the country to another. Partially treated waste water tends to not be as much of an environmental problem as natural gas/oil/etc so the security aspects of the pipeline are lessened for sure, and the risk of failure as well. There's no reason to not use it for water.

the point is to circumvent the natural hydrologic cycle and stop water from getting to the ocean. Unless you can increase the rate of evaporation from the ocean, this seems to the be limits on freshwater replenishment in the hydrologic cycle.

my original argument was to illustrate that we have the techology and conceptual infrastructure. sometime tells me we wouldn't simple be able to just "turn off" the gas and "turn on" water, but the right-of-ways are in existence so we could build a water pipeline alongside them.

Yea I mean a straight shot of a pipeline from alaska to the lower 48 isn't even the longest stretch of pipelining we're doing. It's an easy idea to illustrate that's been planned a dozen times over, mostly built, and unfortunately most likely will get finished after Trudeau is out of office.
