My first strain sucked. Can't wait to get something powerful like others are reporting.

Those look crazy on cakes.
I’ve run like four cultures that all had overlay and gnarly fruits and they were all super potent. I still have to try my most recent ones that look more normal.

Just take a bunch of caps to print. A lot of my nat cultures only like half the caps print right.

Just thought I'd give some advice, couldn't get them to grow by spawning into a tub because they were too slow, they did well in muda's bottle tek tho, just the extra time to colonize in a sterile environment was enough to make them work.
I just used coir and grains but im gunna add brf next time. also added a thin layer of verm on top and took the cakes out of the bottles so that they could side pin.
good luck ppl

Hey guys,
I hope I can get some advice here and hopefully learn enough to give back to the forums one day. Before I came across this site I bought a pf tek kit and some Psilocybe Natalensis spores.
Does these look good so far, I thought they would have finished colonizing by now, it's been close to a month. Next time I will try using a different substrate than a kit but for now I really hope I can get these to fruit successfully. I don't know much but it looked like it started correctly then these puffy white spots started, I thought it's just the mycelium but I am not sure and would appreciate a second opinion.

Those look pretty healthy to me.
A lot of times cakes that size will stall out. I’m not sure what to do but I think flipping the jar upside down can help sometimes.

They probably ran out of oxigen (improper gas exchange). You could try and open them up a bit. Being careful not to introduce contam. Wipe them with iso first, wear gloves and open in a sab or a cleanish environment. Don't take the cap of. Just crack it a little and close it back.

That's a relief, thank you. Going to flip them now. Still looks like it's growing but it's slow going. Kind of already expected a first flush but I think the temperature might have been a bit cold.

Thanks, might give this a try as-well but scared of letting contam in. Will be very careful with this. There is a little air hole each side stuffed with some filling.
Thanks for the help guys

Thanks to everyone who has been involved in this thread so far.. I've already learned so much and haven't even produced a fruit of my own!
So, my first attempts with Ps. natalensis are underway. Starting material for the control is a confirmed Psilocybe Natalensis print from Alan.
I did some research and was able to follow a trail to a vendor (from South Africa) that supplied the spores for the first papers on Psilocybe Natalensis. Have reached out to them looking to procure spores from the varieties they are marketing as NSS & Psilocybe Natalensis. I also secured a print from a generous & active member of this thread and will start that print very soon, but have several projects running now and wanted to space the Nat experiments out just a bit to keep down on any possible confusion. As soon as i establish a couple of cultures that perform well from the control, i will initiate the same process for the two other prints i have collected.
6 plates of 2% MYCA were streaked with a diluted spore solution created from the print labelled "Psilocybe Natalensis". 2 of the 6 were selected for the first round of transfers based on mycelial morphology. The others will continue to incubate for a couple of months and will be checked periodically for contamination and pins.
PLATE 1 is a mostly tomentose culture with some emergent linear to rhizomorphic sectors. In addition, a single colony appeared on the opposite side from the main germination site and was immediately transferred to it's own plate.
PLATE 2 is a highly rhizomorphic culture i've taken several transfers from each plate and moved them to new plates with 3 samples on each. I like this method for testing compatibility between cultures as well as to simply save on plates. For this, i use 2 different configurations: 3 samples in a triangle in the center of the plate, placed with the leading edge pointing outward; and then 3 samples in a triangle along the periphery of the plate, placed with the leading edge facing inwardly. My experience has shown that these 2 configurations help to determine compatibility (or incompatibility), as well as to facilitate the fusion (through anastomosis) of the dominant strains within a culture for (hopeful) eventual complex phenotypic emergence as well as the rejection/exclusion of the under-performing, less dominant strains.

Here are 3 clone tests I spawned 8 days ago. I used 1:3 spawn ratio in the standard 650g coir, 2qt verm, 4qt water CV recipe. I'm fruiting them in dub tubbed shoeboxes.
These are: NAT1 "Thick Stem", NAT2 "Tall Boy", NAT3 "Regal"
