$5 bucka at a yard sale. It’s a classic. Should I red line this fucker right off the bat? Now I have the ability to run 14 jars at a time if I still have a kitchen after the maiden run…. It says “open petcock” lol. All BS aside I’m a little nervous to just go for it but it’s in great shape, no dents or deformities and the gasket looks brand new. Anyone know of a method to safely test?

Cool thing ya got there. For the test you could always remove the gauge and hook it up to 15-20psi compressed air to ensure it reads proper before bringing the pressure up in the vessel.

I would take some precautions but definitely try the thing out. Maybe you could run it outside first on a portable stove or smth? Do you have the 15 PSI rocker?

It might be old but it's not like aluminium rots over time. In reality it's likely a fair bit higher quality built than a presto.

I've run a National brand for many years, although a different model. National became Presto when they left the US. Mine is literally from the 1920s. Its a beast. If everything looks clean, I'd say its perfectly good to run! If you're scared, you can buy a cheap hotplate from walmart and run it outside first.

Today’s the day. I have a nice camp stove that I’ll run outside for the first go but it is in fact beefier and just all around stronger and higher quality than my Presto. I’ll share my results afterwards.

How did you make out? It looks good. They are worth a bit of money these days.
Found you the manual for that pressure cooker; by the look of it. It has the directions including the safety stuff User manual | Old National Pressure Canner Manual

That link was a huge help. I was just about to start searching myself and there it was. Easy peasy, success. Definitely different that the Presto and a bit of an art form. Surprisingly the sweet spot was between 1 and low which held 15-17 lbs for two hours. It’s a no noise design which is nice but I’ll be keeping my eye on it closely for a while. Thanks for all the help!
