It’s fuckin wild when you think about it. Like isn’t there only one or two colleges actually dedicated to fungi? Like UofC has twenty schools dedicated to plants and animals but not a single one dedicated to mycology. It’s just wild to me seeing how much they affect us and the planet and yet only like 10% are actually described.

Not sure why this tub hasn't pinned yet. It's been like this for a few days.

Has it maintained those surface conditions on its own?
Looks great. I bet you see a ton of pins soon.

I dunno if it'll overlay. There hasn't been any activity at all in several days. Hoping it's about to blow up. I know it's a fruiting strain as the culture came from a plate pin.

Used a 2" top layer of compressed CV, so it took a bit longer to reach full colonization.

Yeah, my tub setup does an amazing job of maintaining the surface conditions. Haven't fanned or misted at all. Only lifted the lid to take that pic.

My tubs stayed like that longer than expected, then got a yellow tint, then pinned. A fast pinner (11 days after spawn) still had a delay between colonization and pinning.

Put me in coach, I wanna play!

JAN graciously sent me a couple different NAT pheno prints (thanks again man!). I’m going to be working with this guy today

I made the print into two swab sets on 8/22.. one set regular and one set as a PE double swab (gonna see what happens just for funnsies at some point).  Just doing the straight nat today (N1 as per JAN)

Converted the swabs into spore solution via one of my oven bag doohickies

The grain jar was inoculated inside the bag and knocked up the cakes and now we wait!

Haven’t seen a lot of nat cakes so hopefully these pan out.. I have a pretty good track record so fingers crossed

One thing I was wondering because, while I’ve been following this thread loosely, I don’t really want to read the whole thread again, so has anyone tried drying out the sub when it starts overlaying and then rehydrating?  I know that’ll probably matte the surface but it’s probably gonna do that anyway and maybe that’ll stop the aggressive growth and trigger a pinning response… maybe throw a compressed CV layer on it after rehydrating.. just spitballing ideas

I’m excited to maybe give these guys a shot

Faht

Now that I got your attention, faht:

Have you ever managed to produce a cross by just transfering a colonized grain to a colonized agar plate?

Is there anything remotely interesting in this tub?  This is where I am with NATS now, I reliably get fruits - and reliably get much overlay.

If there was a quick and easy way to harvest myc, blobs, what you see here, I would keep runnin this type of culture.

Cause the blobs are Hella potent

Something to consider for you too faht
