Tall still air box 1

Ok so I'm a broke ass, looking to do bags without a flow hood and without modifying bags to have a ship. Is it possible to build a SAB tall enough to do bags in? Looking at options right now, seeing what you guys think on the subject. Many thanks!

Yes it can be done. c10 will be here shortly to show you his he used to use. Basically a frame with plexiglass attached and a swinging door.

I’ve been wanting to build one myself. My plan would be to order sheets of 1/8” plexiglass, and then glue them together with a special glue. TAP Plastics sells a “weld” glue that is as thin as water and comes in a bottle with a long and extremely thin (needle-like) spout. When you put two pieces of plexiglass together, then tilt the bottle upside down and touch the tip to the joint between the two panels, it pulls the glue out and sucks it into the joint where it then melts a little of both pieces and permanently fuses them together in seconds.
I’ve found most local places charge INSANE prices for plexiglass (acrylic). eBay sellers have the best price I have seen. Still not extremely cheap to build a big tall SAB though, but less than a flow hood. You need room to store it too so don’t forget about that.
For bags without a ship, you can either apply a small lump of silicone on the bag and let it dry then inject through that or can go right through the bare plastic and seal with hot glue. I’ve tried both and much prefer silicone.

Thanks guys. My thought was a pair of totes set up kind of like a dub tub, with large holes, like 8in+. Would go the silicone ship route but trying to avoid needles all together (kids).

haha sorry im late
Heres one i custom built many years ago for bags, with a big hinged, sealed hatch and built in lights. Couldnt find any pics doin bags in there but thats why i built it

for bags i got it up to about 1 in 50 contamming, so about 98%, which i was very happy with it
built it into a closet to further reduce any interference from air currents
the hatch on the top had weather stripping all the way around, was made of plexi, and i would also use packing tape across the seams and hinges each time i closed it, just for good measure. i would also wet the inside walls with soap water and put a damp towel on the bottom each time (to try to trap contams), and work on an elevated rack above the towel
a lot of that was probably overkill
sure do prefer working in front of a hood though!

There he is haha.
Gotta do the time and work with a sab for bags. Still. Air. Slow moving, slow opening, give time to settle all that jazz.

Or for still air transfers from plates with contamination you don’t want blown around.

Where are you guys getting 200qt totes? Walmart's website shows out of stock and I have never found them locally.

Thanks for this. I never see them when I go there (and I usually browse around), but I checked online and they showed as having a bunch of them. Turns out they were still in boxes high up on the storage rack. I got one and it's definitely much larger in every dimension than my old SAB, though the visibility is more distorted and hazy. I'm just going to cut out a 24x12" rectangle from the side where the arm holes are and silicone some clear plexiglass to it so I have crystal clear viewing clarity.

nice that should work well.
How long do you leave the box settle after moving the 2 bags into the box Leon?
