Yellow-brown areas on GT grow kit
    #27461352 - 09/09/21 06:42 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Hi All,

I've not been able to diagnose this by searching ze web, so I'm hoping for some input.

My Golden Teacher grow kit in SGFC has developed yellow-brown areas, mainly along edges, as you can hopefully see in the images. This is only my second growth, so not much experience. Development seems otherwise good. The smell is a bit "wet/moldy" like a sports bag that has been standing with wet clothes for days. I've been misting a couple times a day and fanning each time. I also dunked.
The (inaccurate) humidity sensor has been reading 90-99% all the time. It reads around 75% in the basement room.
My best guess is too little fresh air due to smell and readings. Though too little water seems more realiatiak according to my research ...

Any suggestions? Should I dump the kit or can I continue the journey?

Btw. Thanks for all the guidance and congrats to me on my first post ☺️

hmm, yeah that doesnt look too good. Kinda looks like it may have just dried up at some point. Maybe try plugging some of those holes. Fanning can also be counter productive. You also dont want ANY standing water in your perlite, thats breeding ground for bacteria- maybe the reason why your chamber smells off. Relative humidity isnt as big of a deal as you think. Read up on proper surface conditions - there is a thread by that name.

Oh, and sgfc is outdated and pretty shit design. Read up on humidity chambers.

Thanks for the reply, Ombisha.

Standing water is not the issue. The smell also disappeared a couple days later. I've read up on surface conditions, and will mist less after fruiting next time.

I've just harvested the first flush with a disappointing turnout. Also, the shrooms broke easily during harvest and the small pins were black inside. Trying to show in the pics.

Can I eat these and can I continue with further flushes to see if things improve? Or should I abort?
Bear with me, I'm really trying not to waste these, and constantly searching the forum for answers.

Yeah man, that looks like over misting and resulting bacterial spread. I think that consensus is you can eat these, but i would probably make a tea and strains the mushroom pulp afterwards.

Yeah, tea was also my conclusion from other theads. It's still a bit scary, though. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!

If others come by with knowledge to share, it's very welcomed.
