Alan Rockefeller Lab Video 2

Just watched this video, really interesting!
I had a few questions, maybe some of you in here (or Alan himself) might be able to answer.
At 9:20 Alan talks about a Tubaria sp. that contained psilocybin, does anyone know what species that was?
At 21:29 Alan talks about Panaeolus papilionaceus producing tryptamines other than psilocybin, mentioning ones that "are really close to psilocybin but haven't been banned yet". Are those tryptamines known to be psychoactive too?
Can't recommend this video enough, it's super fascinating.

Interstin.
I was just wondering what the big deal is about this guy but he does actually seem pretty cool.
I wonder how many people are doing work like this? How rare is this guy?
If anyone noticed the blue cordyceps on the wall that's actually a blacklist picture of an albino cordycep strain bred from Ryan at terrestrial fungi also.
Makes me want a scope so bad.

So cool to see Santore back in Oakland! My family has loved his videos. He is a mash-up of high-level botany, geology and nature discussion, served up with charming foul-mouthed grittiness and empathy for people living in tents under freeways.

He's one of the few mycologists that will even talk about the subject of active species. Very good guy too. The source of most of my Mexican genetics.

I'd be surprised if it has a name. I did some microscopy, and will get sequence data soon, though I don't expect the sequence to match anything in Genbank.
Here's what I know about it: https://mushroomobserver.org/466241

No, though they might be beneficial similar to 5-htp. All Panaeolus are rumored to have tryptamines, though that information is really old. A modern analysis would be really interesting.

There aren't many mycologists studying psilocybin species these days. I'm the only one currently sequencing lots of species and making all the data available to the public in Genbank.

I got to meet him at Mycofest last month, really cool guy. I printed the photo on aluminum and sent him one.

This one looks good, I am going to order one soon to see how it is.

Hey Alan, at 18:24 in the video you said that the culture that won the cup is the strongest known Psilocybin mushroom...I was having a conversation about this recently with Leon Forest, he seems to think that you misspoke, could you confirm/clarify?

TW2 tested at 3.82% total tryptamines according to https://www.oaklandhyphae510.com/post/oakland-hyphae-presents-the-spring-2021-psilocybin-cup-final-results
The second strongest is Psilocybe azurescens, at 2.3%.

Just want to correct (or challenge) you here. As far as I am aware, the most potent (verified) psilocybin containing mushrooms ever known were documented in the following research paper published in 2010 (the most potent sample is highlighted coming in with a 4.49% combined psilocybin/psilocin content):

Here's a link to the research paper if you are interested: Forensic analysis of hallucinogenic mushrooms and khat (Catha edulis Forsk) using cation-exchange liquid chromatography
Pubmed: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20047807/
These were all Panaeolus cyanescens samples seized by customs in Germany that came from commercial growers (retail product shipments).
It's worth noting that by weight, psilocin is substantially more potent than psilocybin so the proper procedure is to convert the psilocybin to "psilocin equivalent" by multiplying the psilocybin value by approximately 0.718 (that number comes from the molecular weight of psilocin/ molecular weight of psilocybin). This is what they do in this research paper, and it is what they SHOULD do in the psilocybin cup results (but they don't currently). However in this case it would not change the conclusion (the psilocybin cup winner is still less potent, it was also a pretty extreme outlier that deviates quite a lot even from other samples of the same cultivar in the same result set vs. the pan cyan data which has a much lower standard deviation and relatively high number of samples).
p.s. Loved the video, the lab, and your passion for mushrooms!

^ Is this in fresh or dried samples?
Amazing video OP! Magical work being done, incredible knowledge, really awesome to see advances in the mushroom world. Happy to be a part of it, why is there so few of us it seems!

Why? He adds character to the video and knows what he's talking about.
