Contamination or healthy mycelium?
    #27460262 - 09/08/21 09:58 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Hi all,

before anybody asks this is the species you all think it is

so i knocked up these tubs with clean spawn on 4/9, 60% coir/verm (PC'd for 90mins) and 40% colonised millet, they showed signed of colonising the bulk sub 1 day later and now we're at 4 days later and the mycelium on top just looks a little suspect to me

Am i safe or does this need to be tossed out?

Thanks in advance

Looks like spawn could have been bacterial although could have been the other type of mycelium other than rizo(forgot how spell it). Have you had successful grows before? Can run through list of signs if not.

Yeah I currently have three successful tubs on the go fruiting as we speak.

these tubs used different coir than the others, but the spawn is the same.

I know my way around bacterial spawn now having had trouble in the past and I am certain the spawn was 100% clean.

It looks awfully fluffy even for tomentose myc, looks like it could be cobweb, but if it is it should be very apparent shortly. Though I'm not good at diagnosing through pics, better wait for someone better to weigh in.

Most likely that other type mycelium than, coir contam resistant so likely not the issue.

I'm a noob but have read a clean swab with hydrogen peroxide on it will shrink cobweb mold if that is what it is. Could be Tomentose mycelium which grows like thick matted hair and unevenly. Hopefully that helps

thanks for the tip, I'm fairly confident this is now not mold as they all remain fairly unchanged overnight so fingers crossed its just tomentose myc but will keep the thread update if they begin to show sign of fruiting
