using a hotbed to plant outdoor patches earlier
    #27453004 - 09/02/21 12:54 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

The area i’m in gets to freezing at night all the way until early July. Patches work well when the temps are ideal but my growing window is limited. if i plant in early july by the time they’re starting to pop im usually dealing with forest fires in august. Is it possible to do a bed in late April instead if i can keep the temps above freezing?
a hot bed uses a couple foot base of decomposing stable litter (fresh horse manure and straw bedding covered in urine) to create heat then about half a foot of normal potting soil on top to plant in. Some people even just use a standing pile of fresh manure to heat their greenhouse. anyone ever try something similar? Would it emit too much C02?

Interesting question. I tried to get some spent cakes to grow on my compost heap, which is heating up internally these days, but so far no fruits have showed up...

Have you looked into wavy cap cultivation? If I remember correctly they grow in cooler temperatures.
