Hmm. never heard of a psychoactive one. well come to think of it. Alot of cacti contain mesc and other alki's but in such low concentrations that they arent worth messing with. so they arent really considered active. I could be wrong there might be a super potent prickly. But hey you could also graft other Strong alkied cacti ontop of the pricklys. super grow .

Hmmmmmmm...... well I'm going to boil and eat one I stole anyways, cause I've tripped off cactus from Lowes that aren't considered largly psychoactive. Wait here we go... link------> http://www.erowid.org/plants/cacti/cacti_guide/cacti_guide_opuntia.shtml

Are you fucking serious? Don't just eat random cacti. That can be deadly dangerous. Opuntia's are highly edible and very delicious so expect a nice meal but dont expect any mind manafesting activity. There are several varieties too and I'm uncertain how to differentiate. Interesting link, although I would like to see his references. Also, I would like to mention that wild harvesting them may be unethical

Don't eat random plants you find at Lowes.
Many of the "cacti" they sell are actually members of a poisonous genus called Euphorbia.
And even if you do find a San Pedro cactus, I would be cautious because you never know what pesticides they may have used.

yes please just be carefull. Several cacti commercially available are rather dangerous .
Speaking of stealing plants, When I was a young lad in my early 20's I would always steal plants from peoples yard (datura, poppies, etc.) but now I have established a large garden of my own and have only started to make it up to the green people... Rather ashamed of myself..

I'm in Michigan! Found the humifusa growing wild and bought a couple compressa pads.I don't think most Michiganders even know that we have a native cactus!

Prickly pears are very edible and if you live in the south there IS one near you. Especially if you're in central to south texas. They have a lot of other uses too including being used as a hair conditioner if i remember correctly. Although I'm aware that many species of cacti contain mescaline I have a really hard time believing that a species of Opunita has usable quantities especially as high as this clame from one of the links posted above:
Quote:
O. cylindrica -
Contains: mescaline (0.9%)
Native to Equador and Peru, where it grows in sandy or gravel soil.
of course this species apparently doesn't grow in north america so I don't know, I guess it's possible and of course I could easily be wrong. If that .9% is accurate someone please acquire me an Opunita cylindrica. I would also imagine that cylindricas don't so closely resemble the prickley pears of this country. Anyone have more information on this stuff?

The Pu'u'nini cactus, common on many islands in Hawaii are edible. It is doobtful that they contain mescaline and most cacti do not contain mescaline. Only certain ones. The primary ones being peyotl and San Pedro and then several minor ones which are usually not available to the general public intersted in said cacti. Unless you study cacti for a living or hobby .
