What do you think? And for those that have it would you say it's worth it at this time? Curious.

I just switched over to Apple for everything but I'll be sure to check it out, I still like Microsoft a lot.

Done some research on it. Will have to upgrade my laptop as I think desktops are a waste of money as I travel a lot. Most likely wouldn't run on it and the benefits for it no, are small. Think is a waste of money until months down the line.

I've seen on YT that you're gonna need a Microsoft account to install it

Still using Windows 8.1 with classic shell. I'll probably never update.

Is it just me or does Windows 10 need an update twice weekly? Randomly adding partitions?
Loved Windows 98 and XP. Made lots of money installing CD burners and 56k modems.
Never again.
Chrome book will be my next computer. If I even buy another computer. MP3s, binge watching cartoons and YouTube are the only reasons for owning a computer anymore. For me at least. This forum and YouTube are my only internet needs.

Is Windows 10 better on a solid state drive? I have a fast i7 3 GHz CPU with a hybrid drive but Windows 10 was sluggish for me even with my 8 GB of ram. Windows 8.1 is perfectly smooth on my system.

Yes. Since Windows 8 Microsoft has been moving more and more things out of RAM and going to the drive more often which, if your system drive is magnetic, causes the perceived sluggishness. Even if you buy the absolute cheapest SSD you can find, it'll still run better than off an HDD. Don't waste your time with hybrid drives. The solid state part is only used for caching. Instead, go for separate magnetic and solid state drives, and as much RAM as you can afford. The OS can use the RAM that's not in use to cache your frequently used files.

As I work in IT I've been eyeing W11 closely. Looks like they have addressed some of the multitudes of fuckups created when forcing the metro GUI and are also dialing back the ridiculous 6 monthly release cycle. Mostly just unfucking that is making it look better than W10.
As usual I'll let other people go first and learn the hard way what all the problems are, then follow after.
Personally I use Linux anyway, but being a Win sysadmin this stuff is pretty interesting. I'm actually surprised that the OS isn't completely subscription model for those who want to use extended services and otherwise free. That's going to be the push soon enough, to be always online and M$ manipulating all your data for dollar$. Already W10 is free if you have any desire to acquire a legal license for nothing. They left it like that on purpose I reckon. Just want your coin for 365, OneDrive, Teams, etc, etc. That's where the real scratch is.

My windows 8.1 system runs perfect on my hybrid drive. It's a Dell latitude, I used my own windows disk and key so it doesn't have any dell bloat crap. Just the necessary audio driver. It's a 4th gen i7 3ghz, 8gb ram. It's super fast and never slugs. Honestly I think the speed of the cpu makes up for anything I can't perceive. This is the fastest cpu I've had. I spoiled myself and got the 3ghz.
It came with windows 10 but it was slow and sluggish. I planned to reformat the drive anyway and put my own windows 8.1 system on it.
I really need to get into Linux if I plan on using computers long term.

Yes, Windows 8.1 will run "fine" on that drive, but Windows 7 would have ran even better, and Windows XP better still. It's obvious Microsoft at some point in the past 10 years stopped testing with HDDs internally, so the performance has progressively gone to crap.
The fastest CPU won't make up for low IOPS. I have a Ryzen 9 and I wouldn't run Windows off an HDD. I already know what that's like. Linux on the other hand I'd have no problem running off an HDD, but I don't use Linux desktops.

Ssd's are STILL too expensive if you want a DECENT capacity like at least 500gb or 1tb. Not this pussy ass 256 bullshit.

Well what is a decent brand? Would it be okay to get an unbranded ssd?
