Ok man, nice theory.
You can get bacteria if you wrap up a print when it is still wet, very rarely if ever will this happen if you let it dry properly. Does that mean they get killed when the print is dried? I don't know and I don't care either, it's the results I see on the plates what I care about.

bacteria needs water but the endospores can survive

Why would there be endospores in a spore print?
Funny how often this subject comes up.

You have a very small amount of substrate in that shoebox, mushrooms are made out of water...have you ever considered using more sub/water to get bigger mushrooms?

Yea lately ive switched to using 2 qts of spawn (and thus more sub, I use 1:2.5 spawn/sub) per shoebox rather than 1. I think this was just a stray qt jar, pretty much all after this one are 2qts and performing much better, but most of my 1 qt shoeboxes end up a little better than this. The blotches were making me think maybe it was too wet.

The blotches are from moisture dripping from the lid, definitely not too wet.
Also ask yourself, is it the increased spawn that is helping your other shoeboxes, or is it the availability of water in the higher volume of substrate?

Pic tax:

The last few tubs of this locations grow. Bottom shelf are subs that are nearly or ready to be tossed. I have 8 Qt jars nearly colonized that will start my grow right away in the new location. Heres to hoping they do okay in the move and that my truck doesnt get pulled over. "No officer, thats just oyster mycelium" "Well this big bag of dried mushrooms dont look like oysters" "What would you know, pig?:"

Right on. Ive been doubting my ability to dial in lately. My subs keep drying out before the first flush so ive had to mist them at least once a day to keep proper surface moisture. Ive slowly been adding more and more water to my coir when bucket teking it but I still think im a bit too low. Its weird thou cuz my coir always looks like its a capacity when I squeeze it but things keep drying out. What makes you say its "definitely" not too wet? Do you think its on the dry side?

Those look healthy.
If the coir is too wet the surface myc has a look to it and the mushrooms will have lumpy/wrinkled caps. Or if it’s really really wet they’ll be tiny.

Not all bacteria make endospores yall
Edit.. from the little bit of re-reseaching it, all places I looked say very few produce endospores.

Right on, I appreciate the responses a ton <3 I feel like im finally getting the hang of the fundamentals but still doubt myself sometimes when I dont get the canopy I want lol.
I really appreciate the folx who have helped me get to this point. Including the people who gave me shit for getting premade supplies in the start. Im glad I was encouraged to DIY, for anyone reading this in the future, just take the advice you get here, even if it comes off kinda rude. its good shit.

Sure swabs get more stubborn if the spores dry out too much over time.
Solution, change tactics. Been repeating forever the best way to treat any swab, fresh or old, is to actually rip a little piece off of it with the tip of the scalpel and bury it in the agar, better yet if you wet the swab in sterile water first because it softens the fibers and it becomes easier to do this.
You can inoculate a fuck ton of plates with this method and I'd be surprised if you didn't see germination in each and every single plate.
I seriously cringe every time I see a whole swab being jammed in the agar, sorry not sorry, it's a horrible sight and if there happens to be mold spores on the swab you'll get a nice green plate, waste of swab.
Getting the swabs wet with sterile water is key… I’ve also been trying to get ppl to rub the swabs together (when ya get a 2pk or just use a blank sterile swab of your own) after dipping water or just by putting a sterile drop on the spores to dislodge the spores from the swab fibers.. I think the biggest reason ppl aren’t seeing germ from swab streaking is because spores aren’t coming off the swabs with a simple swipe. I don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t be able to just put the second swab back into the pack to reuse later.

I totally looked over the 2nd paragraph when I first read this.
Probably the water now that you mention it.

This makes a ton of sense. Totally explains why streaking swabs wasnt working for me. I've always had to cut the tip off onto the plate. Itll be nice to get more than 1 germ plate per swab

I did a test where I took a 2pk of PE swabs… put a drop of water on one of them and then rubbed the two together and then streaked to white paper.. I started at the top right corner and snaked down to the bottom left..

You can see the spores that came off
Even before that, I just rubbed the dry swabs together and some readily flaked off..
