I've never had peanut taste from neem meal in the soil. I've definitely heard of people's flowers tasting funny after spraying neem oil later in the flower cycle though.

Airflow and good watering practice absolutely help with gnats. Most of the time when gnats show up it's because of overwatering IME.

What do you guys think would happen if you grew a plant that was big enough to put out like 4oz, and then cut off everything but a couple branches.

Would it just make a few enormous buds or would they be close to the size they would’ve been anyway?

I’m thinking about stripping half of one of my plants down to just the top buds to compare how they grow next to the other half that’s just lollipopped like normal.

the remaining buds will be bigger, because for the same root mass you are feeding less bud. But if you also cut leaves, you are also left with less sugar factories so it all also depends on what daily light intake your plants are getting and how well they are equipped to use that light.

But it's a common technique, it's called thieving in my language so I expect the same for English but I'm not sure on that, and it's a practice not just applied in cannabis but also in fruit production, among others.

It seems in your last sentence you are describing lollipopping, then you say instead of lollipopping, so either I don't get what you mean or you don't get what lollipopping is.

It makes sense that if the roots are a source and buds a sink then removing some sinks at the same water pressure would cause the remaining sinks to overflow. That's at least partially the concept of lollipopping and giant pumpkin growing. But at some point the stem girth would be a limiting factor. If one stalk is feeding 10 shoots and you remove 9, that 1 branch isn't going to be able to handle the load. I would guess slightly bigger buds than they would have been, but not enough to justify the loss overall.

Pruning regularly helps to direct the growth some though. I try to identify which shoots are staying and which are going before they get a chance to grow. When I prune late and have to lollipop a bush of 30 shoots down to 10 I feel like I'm losing a lot of potential. The potential was excess in my case since I need to control the size and bushiness, but if I had done it sooner the nutrients could have been focused into the branches that were kept and the desired shape achieved much quicker.

You've probably already noticed that since you've done mainlining. I think that's the sweet spot where you're shaping as you go instead of pruning half of the growth and girth right before flowering.

I think that's part of the reason it's advised to not cut off too much foliage at one time, because the reduced surface area = reduced transpiration = reduced root uptake = wet feet and possible root death? I think that's the idea. But then there's revegging where people leave like a tiny popcorn bud to regenerate a 5gal root system. I don't understand if the root system is rebuilt or what happens when a plant revegges.

I imagine the most extreme you could get is a bonsai plant with a thiq stalk but few growth points. Maybe let it veg for a couple months then trim it back again and flower it. If the roots and stalk aren't holding it back I think you'd eventually just hit the speed limit of cell division.

I do remove a lot of lower growth. even when I don't use a trellis. I normally don't use a trellis. some times I regret it but it does help spread it out and get them lower bud sites on point. its really helped my mimosa evo in the 2x4. got the 3 ME clones spread out real well and the buds are loving all the light.

like you ICON, i try to remove and think ahead that way the plant matter i am keeping gets optimal results.

this is my 11th concurrent grow. perpetual harvest?

so im pretty new still, but have been doing it for some year or 2 or almost 3yrs. not very long and I don't remember well, but practice makes perfect.

i am still an overwater'er!  plus the current soil in the pots holds more water than i prefer.

man, here's my confession:  yesterday I turned off the autocloner for a few so I could look inside of it without getting water spraying everywhere. I freeking forgot to plug it back in. it was off for like 2 or 3 hours. when i noticed it, it was because all the clones where bent over dying. I plugged it back in and after a lil while they were all as good as new (I hope). they look good anyway. no roots yet. that might set it back a few days. IDK.

A few hours made them start to wilt?? Damn I figured they’d be ok for a minute, good to know.

Yeah I think this round I need to do some experiments with pruning.

Anybody ever ordered from real seed co?

Just got some Laos and Afghan landrace seeds so hopefully they’re legit. Seems ok from the quick search I did on them.

Im an indo/outdo guy. My sunlight hours arent enough to keep most strains in veg so i have to move them in and out daily. When I want to flower i leave them outside in the greenhouse. I only have 8 in flower atm.

Its weird how strong my lcxcn in coir is compared to the soil ones. Its been huge the whole time, even the seed was big, so idk if it’s just a robust plant or if being in coir with good conditions has made a difference.

But my other ones fell over even from smaller buds, while this one has way bigger ones and had no problem supporting them even growing horizontally.

Would be perfect to clone except the flower period. I’m in week 14 now and still have lots of white pistils.

How does the pruning look on this one? I stripped a little higher than my first plants but I think it’s about right.

Easily gonna be my largest plant so far by at least double. I’m kinda worried I’m gonna have to bolt the light to the ceiling after it stretches, Ive only got maybe six more inches I can raise it right now.

You're doing a great job. Maybe it's time for a scrog net? That girl could easily stretch more than 6" but if you open it up some more and spread the branches it might just fit.

Edit: I counted 25-30 tops which is quite a lot tbh. You could scrog that out into a 2x2' or take off more branches if you want to let it go. I circled a few suckers that are just starting to grow or shoots that look too low to catch up.

Was that plant a clone? It's got that flowering node structure.

Ok awesome thanks.

Yeah it’s a clone, I was surprised how different it is than working with a seed plant. It looks like the buds will grow differently on it, more of a solid cola instead of symmetrical chunks with space between them.

lol I did top it a ton of times, it got pretty thick fast. I am thinking about trying a net but I’d have to rig something up like a square board under the plant the net attached to so I can move the whole thing.

With the light right now I’ve got it hanging from a shelf in the closet and there’s like six inches of room left, but I can hang it from the ceiling and that’ll give me probably two more feet. I wish I had a bigger flowering space so I could just train the plant to spread out instead of up but i have three plants right now so I’ve gotta try and maximize the 2x4 and go vertical. This time.

Thanks for taking the time to circle those spots too, what to strip off is probably the area I’m working on the most right now.

I know the struggle. I wish I could use my ceiling

This is my veg tent. The plants are literally growing into the lights now. They just exploded over the past week. Trying to top and train to buy myself time.

The tent they're going into isn't harvested yet, I think it could go a couple more days. It's exciting though, I've been working to get on this cycle of harvest, clean and transplant the waiting veg plants straight into 12/12. It's a marathon process but I'm hoping to get it down to a 24hr shift.

Oh wow man you’ve got a ton of little plants going on those shelves.

That flower tent is beautiful. How many plants is it?

The one I’m waiting on to finish that’s starting it’s 14th week looks similar to those buds in your tent. Do you harvest at that stage usually before all the pistils go dark and recede?

Man both yalls flowers are BEAUTIFUL!!

I'm very excited for my LCxCN. Shes in flower now a week or so. The 3 in the auto cloner have no roots yet.

Very uniform canopy icon.
1. How many plants?
2. How big are the tops?

I'll try and take some nice photos of my flower tent tomorrow. The mimosa evo are starting to grow their moosenuckles. (That's what wife calls it)

My cheese plant so far. Growing outside in the  garden. Only nutrients I have been using are epsom salt and organic black strap molasses.
Hoping for a yield of at least a quarter pound.

Thanks guys!

It's 16 plants in a 4x4 flower tent. That's why I need so many on deck in veg.
This is the first monocrop I've done. All 16 are the same clone, that's why it looks so uniform.

I normally would wait until all the pistils go brown, was planning for another 10 days. But I don't think I have that long on the veg plants, going to have to compromise. This is my 4th run of the strain and I'm starting to detect when it smells ready (subjectively to me). The grape sugar smell is fading and I'd like to see if harvesting a little earlier preserves some of it.

Can you take a closer picture of a LC x CN cola? Can't see the pistils in the larger photo but the calyx's look swoll af. I like those big calyx to pistil ratio flowers. Mine are plump but very hairy. IDK if some strains just make more pistils/longer pistils or if I'm not filling the flower's potential.

Looks good! Imagine it's going to be pretty dank smelling. What strain is it?

I usually prune the large/wide fan leaves off the top because it covers a lot of the buds. Heres how I usually leave it while flowering. Tho may prune in another week or 2, one last before harvesting.

icon that nug looks beautiful :pipesmoke:

Calyx to leaf and calyx to pistil ratios are highly strain dependant. You can max it out a bit using things like additional UV lights, but there will always be a strain dependant difference visible.
