So you recommend adding another inch or so of CVG and compressing on this colonized top layer, filling the container near the rim? I can do that. Thanks P9 and Faht.

Edit. Sorry I misattributed my reply. Thank you both for the discussion.

Let this go, adding and compressing on top of colonized substrate won't do you any good.

Why not? What’s the difference if it was sitting there uncolonized or if you put it on now? He’s still got 2 weeks before it pins.. if anything, having fully colonized sub below is going to make the second layer colonize nice and evenly
I’m just not seeing how adding more sub right when that sub was going to be colonized if we’re already sitting there wouldn’t be effective, but maybe I’m missing something.. It’s late lol

I personally prefer not to compress mycelium that has colonized a large portion of the substrate already, once things progress past a certain point I leave it alone. I don't have any real data to support this instinct, it's just what I do.

Over in Teds PE thread I ran a little experiment where instead of lightly sprinkling the peat casing on top I compressed the casing layer on one of my 5 shoeboxes. If I remember correctly it yielded the same amount as the other non-compressed shoeboxes but it ran about a week behind the others. Slower to colonize, slower to pin and fruit but it produced. However, I did notice it was harder to maintain surface conditions with that tub. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the compression or the location in the room (I think it was getting blown on by the air register). That's just my two cents and I am not by any means an expert, especially compared to you two!
I've been meaning to drop in on this thread to give you a shout out, p9 and say how excited I am to give this TEK a go. Keep it up man!

Yes, spawn to fruiting as per usual.
Just for clarifaction - do you mean
Yes, spawn directly to fruiting conditions (from day 1)?
or
Yes, spawn (and colonize) and then fruit as per usual?
-
Thank you! I'm trying this with my first APE 16qt container and it's looking good so far!
By the way, the video in your thread doesn't work anymore.

I can’t speak for p9 but I took it as fruiting conditions from day 1

I spawned me a MS SWPE tub yesterday and while I didn’t have a trowel I still got it packed down pretty good. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

So it depends on the tub. Shoeboxes colonize on a shelf with the lids on until 100% and then added to a fruiting chamber.
Larger tubs that will be fruited from, like a mono, or any other tub that doesn't require a FC will be placed into fruiting at spawning.
@pasty looking forward to seeing it.
